Southampton City Council is seeking dedicated and compassionate individuals to join our Day Services team as Support Workers. In this role, you will provide 1:1 support to service users with learning disabilities and autism, facilitating their engagement in meaningful community and building-based activities. Your support will be guided by clear goals and objectives, emphasising a strength-based, person-centred approach to service delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide tailored 1:1 support to service users, assisting them in participating in activities that promote skill development, independence, and community integration.
2. Collaborate with service users, their families, and the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement person-centred support plans with specific, measurable goals.
3. Utilise a strength-based approach to empower service users, focusing on their abilities and promoting active participation in all aspects of service delivery.
4. Support and advocate for service users, ensuring their voices are heard and their rights are upheld in all interactions and decisions.
5. Assist in the development and delivery of communication strategies tailored to each individual's needs, promoting effective interaction and expression.
6. Engage in community-based activities with service users, fostering social inclusion and a sense of belonging.
7. Maintain accurate and timely records of support provided, ensuring compliance with relevant policies and procedures.
Essential Criteria:
1. Experience in supporting individuals with learning disabilities and autism, or a strong commitment to developing skills in this area.
2. Excellent communication skills, including the ability to listen actively and adapt communication methods to meet individual needs.
3. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement person-centred support plans with clear goals and objectives.
4. A positive, proactive attitude towards supporting individuals to lead independent and fulfilling lives.
5. Ability to work flexibly, including occasional evenings and weekends, as required.
6. A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are desirable but not essential.
