We are seeking an experienced Senior Hydraulic and River Analyst to lead and deliver high-profile flood modelling and risk management projects across the UK. This is a key role within our business, providing technical leadership, strategic direction, and mentoring to junior team members.
As a senior specialist, you will play a crucial part in shaping our hydraulic modelling, flood risk, and river management services, contributing to business growth and client engagement. You will work closely with industry partners, regulatory bodies, and internal teams to drive innovation and best practice in flood modelling, resilience, and climate adaptation.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the development, calibration, and application of hydraulic models (1D, 2D, and integrated) for flood risk assessment, river restoration, and water management.
* Oversee and quality-assure flood risk assessments (FRAs), hydrological studies, and climate change impact evaluations for major projects.
* Provide expert technical guidance on hydraulic modelling software (e.g., Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, HEC-RAS, InfoWorks ICM, MIKE FLOOD).
* Lead client and stakeholder engagement, including collaboration with the Environment Agency, SEPA, Natural Resources Wales, DEFRA, and local authorities.
* Develop and implement flood resilience strategies, advising on mitigation measures, infrastructure planning, and environmental compliance.
* Support the growth and development of the flood modelling team, mentoring junior colleagues and driving technical excellence.
* Identify and secure new business opportunities, supporting tenders and expanding client relationships.
* Ensure project delivery meets the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
Minimum Requirements:
* Significant experience in hydraulic modelling, flood risk assessment, and river management within the UK.
* Degree (BSc/MSc) in Civil Engineering, Hydrology, Environmental Science, or related field.
* Proficiency in flood modelling tools (Flood Modeller, TUFLOW or others).
* Strong knowledge of UK flood risk policies and legislation (e.g., NPPF, Flood Risk Regulations, WFD).
* Experience in managing complex, multi-disciplinary flood risk projects.
* Demonstrated ability to mentor, lead teams, and drive technical excellence.
* Strong GIS and data analysis skills (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS).
* Excellent client management, stakeholder engagement, and business development skills.
Desirable Qualifications:
* Chartered status (or working towards) with ICE, CIWEM, or equivalent.
* Experience in hydrological modelling (e.g., FEH, ReFH, WINFAP).
* Track record in securing funding, bids, or leading project proposals.
