Job Summary (Hybrid Working)
This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual with proven technical ability and strong analytical skills to join NHSBT’s Financial Accounting and Control Team for 12 months. This role will surely provide you with valuable experience which can broaden your horizons as you will by key support for the year-end process and audit. The role is based in Barnsley with flexibility for remote working.
You will support the Senior Financial Accountant on a range of technical; compliance and regulatory issues; and financial accounting processes. Ensuring completeness of documentation; liaising with various internal and external stakeholders; your technical accounting skills will also be needed for the more complex aspects of assets revaluation and the production of the Trust Fund Accounts. Excellent communication skills are a must with knowledge of NHS accounting and NHS VAT treatment.
Main duties
In this role you join the Finance team in a thriving organisation, supporting the Senior Financial Accountant with accounting such as financial control reviews in areas of suspected fraud or other risk. Your responsibilities will be:
* Identifying non-compliance with policies (including those with taxation impacts) and to resolve the issues either through addressing non-compliance or redesign of the policy.
* Managing and produce the Trust Fund Accounts ensuring prompt and accurate reporting to the committee and prompt and accurate accounts are produced for audit and in time for submission to the Charity Commission.
* Being responsible for developing, maintaining, and monitoring the losses and special payments register.
* Providing reports for senior finance management and liaising with External Audit on losses and special payments reporting.
* Acting as key contact with Internal Audit on co-ordination of audit reports, audit responses and outstanding audit issues, reviewing audit recommendations, management comments and timescales making changes where appropriate.
* Following up implementation of agreed NHSBT management comments, preparing reports for the Governance and Audit Committee.
* Being an operational lead in investigating the outputs from the National Fraud Initiative.
* Supporting in the production of the statutory year end accounts.
You will be required to undertake occasional travel to any NHSBT sites to meet the requirements of the post (notice will be given).
About You
Experience and Knowledge
* Detailed knowledge of finance and audit.
* Detailed knowledge of financial control environment.
* Wide experience of computer finance packages and internet.
* Up to date knowledge of internal and external audit standards.
* Detailed knowledge of technical accounting standards.
* Experience of working with information technology using Microsoft Office packages (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams and PowerPoint).
Qualifications and Training
* Willing to work towards achieving Counter Fraud Specialist Accreditation.
* Willing to work towards achieving fully qualified accountant.
* Recognised Professional Accountancy Qualification to Post Graduate Diploma level or equivalent demonstrable relevant experience.
* Possess a valid driving licence, allowing you to drive in the UK
* Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD).
