Job Description:
The salary for this role is £67,023 (inclusive of MPP £7,300) + excellent benefits including outstanding pension. Onsite working is expected for 4 days each week, however, we actively support requests for flexible working.
This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data.
The Role
The Electrical Services Group, part of the Electrical Engineering Unit, is responsible for maintaining the UKAEA's electrical power distribution network, including 11 kV/3.3 kV, 415 V high-power distribution, UPS systems, and the 400/33 kV experimental distribution. The group also provides key electrician and electrical technician expertise for major electrical installation projects including testing and inspections.
As the Electrical Services Group Leader, you will manage the group’s resources, technical work, and safety, ensuring the maintenance of the site-wide power network that supports all experimental facilities and building infrastructure. You will set the strategic direction, lead the group, and provide expert advice on electrical installations and distribution, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.

Additional Key Responsibilities:
* Manage and develop staff within the group, including setting personal development plans, providing feedback, completing appraisal reports, and ensuring mandatory UKAEA training is completed.
* Provide clear leadership, encourage effective teamwork, promote a positive attitude, and support knowledge-sharing within the team for strong succession planning.
* Lead recruitment activities for the group and support the Head of Operations in setting priorities and managing budgets, working with programme managers to track spending.
* Ensure the safe and reliable operation of site power distribution equipment and UPS systems, and ensure compliance with UKAEA and statutory requirements to maintain a safe working environment.
* Act as a Subject Matter Expert, providing advisory support for electrical distribution projects, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, managing budgets effectively, and addressing potential safety or environmental risks proactively.
Qualifications
Essential Requirements:
* Degree in Electrical Engineering, or a lower qualification where there is evidence of greater experience.
* Significant experience in electrical engineering, specifically in the management of electrical resource and the operation and maintenance of electrical distribution networks.
* In-depth understanding of industry practice, legislation and standards applicable to electrical systems.
* Strong leadership and influencing skills, with the ability to engage with multiple stakeholders at different levels throughout the organisation.
