Set within landscaped gardens in Cheshire, Priory Hospital Cheadle Royal (close to Manchester) offers a range of complex mental health services, providing clinical excellence in our eating disorders, adolescent, rehabilitation, acute and PICU services. We use an eclectic model of care and intervention, drawing on a variety of evidence-based approaches. We are looking for a qualified and experienced Practitioner Psychologist (must be HCPC registered) to lead the psychological therapies provision into our Adult Acute Inpatient Services. There is flexibility with regards to the hours of this post, and it can be offered on either a full time or part time basis. The post holder will report to the Head of Psychology and form part of the leadership team within the psychological therapies department. The post holder will be involved in the strategic leadership of the psychology provision across the adult Acute and Psychiatric Intensive Care services and be involved in service development. The post holder will also have some line management responsibilities. The post holder will provide direct psychological input to some of these wards. The clinical aspect of the role will mainly involve consultation and indirect working, including providing a psychological perspective to decision making around patient care, consultation to staff teams and facilitation of reflective practice, attendance at ward rounds and CPA review meetings, and working closely with and providing support to ward teams to foster trauma informed approaches to care. The role will also involve some psychological assessment, formulation and intervention. The post holder will supervise an Assistant Psychologist and oversee the delivery of their therapeutic work, including the delivery of a therapeutic group programme and psychoeducational and skills work. Suitable candidates must have specialist knowledge and relevant post qualification clinical experience of working with individuals with a range of mental health difficulties, including mood disorders, psychosis, and trauma and personality difficulties. Suitable candidates will also have some previous experience of providing supervision and involvement in service development. Experience in clinical leadership and people management is desirable. Interested applicants should have a strong interest in developing innovative practice, working with complexity, and working in teams. They should have effective leadership skills including self-motivation, effective communication, the ability to support and motivate others, and the ability to ensure the systematic governance of psychological practice within the team. There are excellent CPD and training opportunities for employees within this service, and funded and accredited training opportunities will be available and agreed as part of the role (subject the completion of a probationary period). Attendance at national conferences and research interests are also encouraged. The psychology department also has strong research links with local Universities, and provides placements for trainees from a number of different courses on both core and specialist placements.
