MacArthur Green is a Glasgow based environmental consultancy, seeking a Project GIS Technician to join our team. We specialise in providing ecology and ornithology consultancy services to large-scale renewable projects such as onshore and offshore wind farms, as well as natural capital schemes and grid network projects. The Role This role comes at an exciting time when there are two distinct and exciting experiences for the successful candidate. Initially, you will be responsible for GIS support for MacArthur Green’s highly specialised ecology, ornithology, peat and water quality teams. As the MacArthur Green transition into SLR progresses in 2025, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to learn and develop as part of a busy and collaborative European team that provides expert support and advice on GIS, geospatial data analysis and bespoke digital tools development across the full range of technical disciplines offered by SLR. You will work on multidisciplinary projects alongside other technical disciplines as well as standalone GIS projects for a range of external clients. Projects are primarily located throughout Europe but with an ever-growing focus on more widely spread international opportunities. Responsibilities You will provide mapping and analysis support to the senior GIS staff and a variety of technical disciplines. The role will include: Georeferencing and digitising map data. Creating maps/drawings for reports and Environmental Impact Assessments / Sequential Assessments / Discharge of Condition Reports, etc. Capturing, managing, and analysing data in GIS from multiple sources and in a variety of formats. Preparing field maps for surveys. Preparation and maintenance of data in on premise and ArcGIS Online Environments. Preparing QGIS maps and other data viewer applications and Excel tables for project managers. Working with the rest of the team to deliver projects to tight deadlines and budgets. Adhering to QA process and standard for data management and drawing outputs. Contributing to the smooth operation of the GIS team through active participation in team resource calls, supervision systems and knowledge sharing. Qualifications & Experience Essential Degree qualification in GIS, Geography or a related field Good understanding of technical and applied geospatial principles Working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS Pro and software extensions Experience of using geodatabases Good understanding of data management principles Good understanding of global coordinate systems and projections Experience producing high quality cartographic outputs Highly proficient in use of Microsoft office suite (Excel, Word, Access etc.) Desirable MSc in GIS Work experience within a commercial environmental consultancy or public sector Experience of using ArcGIS Online Applications Understanding of other GIS software packages and open-source platforms such as QGIS, Global Mapper, POSTGIS etc. Experience with automation, programming languages and software development (ModelBuilder, Python, R, SQL, HTML, Javascript etc.) Knowledge of and experience using UK spatial datasets such as Ordnance Survey mapping products and environmental datasets Personal Attributes Excellent communicator within a team environment Ability to work accurately under pressure Strong team player Ability to self-check own work Good problem-solving skills Ability to adapt to changing scenarios Excellent time management skills Keen to seek and undertake independent training to enhance care Desire to gain Chartership related to GIS Location MacArthur Green is based in Glasgow.
