Role: Systems Administrator – LINUX
Location: Hybrid working (Brentwood office 50%, remote for 50%).
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm. Ad hoc out-of-hours work for upgrades and patching, with on-call duties paid at £35.00 per day when required.
Responsibilities:
* Server Management: Ensure Linux (Red Hat Enterprise Linux) servers run optimally and pre-empt problems.
* Software Management: Install packages and ensure Linux (RHEL) software runs correctly.
* Network Infrastructure: Maintain and update network infrastructure.
* Data Backup: Ensure data is backed up according to schedules.
* Remote Access: Support remote users and maintain systems like Rustdesk VPN.
* User and System Maintenance: Maintain users, printing systems, and network performance.
* Incident Management: Diagnose and fix IT incidents, assist with major incidents.
* Team Improvement: Offer ideas for team improvement.
* User Support: Support users with computer equipment and MS Office applications.
* Telephone System: Maintain the availability and efficiency of the telephone system.
* Documentation: Document support procedures and system configurations.
* Service Desk: Provide user support through the service desk.
* Application Availability: Maximize the availability of desktop and network-based applications.
* Security: Keep systems patched and updated with security updates.
* Error Diagnosis: Diagnose system errors and involve programmers when necessary.
* Equipment Recommendation: Recommend equipment purchases.
* SLA Compliance: Ensure systems meet agreed SLAs.
* New Equipment Installation: Install new IT equipment like servers, PCs, and printers.
* On Call: Be available to join the out-of-hours support rota for an average of 1 week per month.
Requirements:
* At least 2 years of proven experience of Linux System Administration, preferably Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
* Familiarity with Windows System Administration.
* Proven experience of network support.
* Ability to use system monitoring tools.
* Experience of using network printers is desirable.
* Good networking capabilities, i.e., TCP/IP, is desirable.
* Ability to work with minimal supervision to tight deadlines.
* Strong communication skills.
* Experienced team player with a flexible approach.
* Proven experience in troubleshooting to rapidly resolve technical problems.
