Main duties of the job

* Assessing and monitoring patient conditions and arranging diagnostic tests
* Recognising deterioration in the physical or mental condition of a patient and taking appropriate action/ escalation
* Recognising, responding to, and managing emergency situations
* Displaying excellent analytical ability and sound decision making in changing clinical situations
* Recognising limitations and escalating concerns
* The role will involve, but not be limited to you performing the above

What you can add:
* The post holder will be responsible for overseeing the provision of health care for children and young people, aged 2-19 years, with severe/profound and multiple learning and physical difficulties.
* The senior nurse will take responsibility for managing and overseeing the school nurse and assistant practitioner within their school team.
* Develop and maintain communication with people about complex, highly sensitive matters and/or in a difficult situation.
* Have some knowledge of and instil a team approach to be able to use alternative communication means used by the children e.g. makaton, PECs.
* Responsible for communicating and receiving sensitive, complex, and sometimes contentious information relating to children and young people, relatives, and carers whilst ensuring confidentiality.
* Establish effective, appropriate communication processes with parents/guardians and carers.
* Communicate effectively with a wide range of health, education and social care professionals across professional boundaries.
What you'll need:
* RN(Adult), RN(Child) or RSCN, RN (LD)
* Specific children's experience and learning disability experience.
* Evidence of broad clinical experiences
* Minimum of 3 years post registration experience
* Experience of staff management
* Evidence of professional development
* Good understanding of current nursing workforce issues
* Clear understanding of community health services
* Experienced Clinical Nurse.
* Ability to work well in stressful situations
* Experience of initiating and participating in clinical audit
*Depending on the Trust, you may require variable additional certification and skills.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* All Registered Nurse roles will be required to provide evidence of:
* Statement of NMC Registration
* Degree/Diploma in Nursing
Experience
* A car and valid UK driving license.
* A minimum of 6 months paid experience in a School Nurse for Children and Young People environment within the last 2 years.
