Electronic Test / Repair Engineer
Location: RG7 4PR, located between Reading and Basingstoke, with free onsite parking.
Package: £36,000 - £45,000 (depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience)

AWE is currently recruiting for an Electronic Test and Repair Engineer in our Nuclear Materials Control team working within our Operations function.
This role will offer the opportunity to support and develop a range of legacy and bespoke systems covering Linux, Windows, ARM, Arduino, automated test equipment and fault finding at system level and down to component level on PCBs. The role also includes providing support to our production facilities and maintaining an offline development simulation environment.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Contributing as part of a team to take on projects by gathering customer requirements, prototyping solutions in both software and electronic hardware, testing and validation of designs creating written evidence and documentation.
2. Providing second line support to production teams on technical queries, suggesting solutions, and giving support when appropriate which will contribute to our KPI's/SLA's.
3. Supporting and enhancing an offline development/simulation environment to enable software and hardware development, testing and fault reproduction for investigations.
4. Identifying and supporting opportunities for improving the current X25 RS232 network with a view to upgrade to a robust Ethernet network and designing and implementing ways of loading up comms traffic to simulate real plant scenarios.
5. Designing and implementing new solutions to extend the life of the existing legacy bespoke circuit boards researching modern equivalents to replace obsolescent components.
6. Designing and implementing automated test equipment to replace the manual test process used on the Eurocard based control system, recording faults found and highlighting common issues.
7. Improving and undertaking modifications to the Pascal code on an OS9 development platform and compiling, optimising and creating EPROMS from the binary code produced.

We'd like you to have experience in some of the following:
1. Working on complex or legacy control systems.
2. Implementation of innovative ways to utilise new technologies to remove subsystem obsolescence.
3. Fault finding and repair of electronic circuit boards to component level.
4. Proficiency in fault-finding and problem solving.
5. Good familiarity with Microcontrollers such as Arduino, ARM and Raspberry Pi.
6. Electronic design skills in schematic capture and PCB layout.
7. Programming skills (C/C++ and Python are preferable).
8. Knowledge of creating bespoke Linux environments.
9. Mentoring and coaching skills.
10. Strong communication skills with both internal and external customers/suppliers.
You'll Be Set for Success If you have some of the following skills and experience:
1. Knowledge of Inventory Control, storage, handling and movement of Radioactive/Hazardous Materials.
2. Knowledge of radiological and criticality safety hazard management.
You will need to have the ability to work calmly and constructively in a priority changing environment and be able to manage your own and your team's workload. You will also have initiative, enthusiasm, a flexible approach, and ability to work to tight deadlines.

Important things you need to know:
You will need to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role. This will be funded by AWE. The nature of our work does mean you need to be a British citizen who has been in the UK for the past 5 years in order to apply for SC clearance and 10 years for DV.

Due to the nature of the work involved, there are limited opportunities to work from home in this role. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will spend the majority of their time working on site at AWE Aldermaston. Typically 4 days onsite per week.
