Job Title: Prison Law Director (Solicitor)
Salary: Up to £70,000 depending on experience
Location: City of London
Job Type: Perm/Hybrid
The Role:
We are looking for an experienced Prison Law Director (Solicitor) to join the Prison Law department. The successful candidate will manage a team and oversee a caseload that includes appeals against conviction, Proceeds of Crime, categorisation issues, and challenges during custody.
The role involves supervising staff, supporting team members, assisting with an outsourcing project, and reviewing processes and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage all aspects of Prison Law and some Criminal Law cases
* Represent clients at police stations, prisons, and detention institutions, both in and out of office hours
* Supervise a team of solicitors, trainees, and paralegals
* Conduct probation reviews and monthly file reviews
* Collaborate with the Board to meet performance targets
* Handle client instructions, case progress, and advocacy at parole hearings and adjudications
* Ensure compliance with time costing, file management, and deadlines
* Contribute to business development and marketing efforts
Key Skills Required:
* 5+ years PQE with team management experience
* Extensive experience in Prison Law and Criminal Defence
* Knowledge of publicly funded Prison Law/Crime work and ability to manage privately funded cases
* Police Station Accredited (preferred)
* Clean, valid Practicing Certificate
* Excellent client care, networking, and communication skills
* Ability to manage tight deadlines and work out of hours when required
* Strong organisational, analytical, and IT skills
* Willingness to travel and attend prisons as needed
