Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced nurse to join the Supportive and Palliative Care Team at UHS. This is a permanent Band 7 position with the team providing specialist palliative care and end of life care to adults across Southampton General Hospital and Princess Anne Hospital.
We run a 7 day a week service supporting patients with non-malignant and malignant diseases. The post holder will join the senior management team and share a caseload of patients who have specialist palliative care needs including symptom management, psychological care, rehabilitation and end of life care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic specialist nurse with a proven track record in leadership and staff development, along with a commitment to continuous learning, teamwork and mutual support.
The successful applicant will need to demonstrate clinical expertise within the field of specialist palliative care. You will possess advanced clinical skills, be an excellent communicator, leader and educator, contributing to the development of the service.
Responsibilities:
1. Practice at an advanced level to provide in-depth knowledge to deliver personalised care.
2. Line manage direct reports, as appropriate, including all stages of recruitment, retention, attendance and performance management.
3. Facilitate change to promote practice development and service improvement/modernisation activities, in accordance with local and national service policy or guidance.
4. Identify gaps in evidence and/or practice knowledge that require resolution through research and initiate or assist in research activities as appropriate.
What experience/skills are needed:
1. Specialist clinical skills and experience at Band 6 level within specialist palliative care.
2. Experience of supporting/managing learners in practice.
3. Negotiation and problem solving skills.
4. You will need to be able to assimilate clinical information quickly to provide specialist interventions.
You will be required to work across a 7 day a week service.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience
* Registered nurse on relevant part of the NMC register.
* Level 7 Post Grad Cert (Min 60 Credits), Master’s Degree within relevant speciality or equivalent knowledge to be assessed through evidence of relevant speciality training, experience or portfolio.
* Specialist training/Qualification in area of practice.
* Provide evidence of leading learning in practice.
* Evidence of experience and completion of all band 6 competencies within relevant speciality.
* Specialist clinical skills and experience within specialist area.
* Evidence of change Management, leadership and innovation.
* Clinical experience at Band 6 or equivalent within relevant speciality.
* Provide evidence of supporting colleagues to promote learning in practice providing an excellent learning environment for all.
* Provide evidence of supporting/managing and supervision of a range of learners in practice.
* Counselling/advanced communication skills qualification/training.
* Act in the role of Practice Assessor or supporting the progression of learners/supporting challenges as needed.
