Day time neonatal services are provided by 2 consultants, one covering intensive care, and one supporting service, as well as 2 Tier 2 doctors and 3 Tier 1 doctors (and/or ANNP covering either level). Out of hours, the service is provided by: on call Consultant, resident Tier 2 (Specialty registrar ST4-8, or experienced ANNP) and resident Tier 1 (ST1-3) doctor.
As well as providing care to those who are born preterm, Bradford has a diverse, interesting and complex cohort of patients, including those with antenatally diagnosed congenital anomalies, and presenting with genetic or metabolic disorders.
You will be responsible for care of new-born babies throughout the Neonatal Service.
Main duties of the job
* Being the first responder at deliveries requiring a paediatrician presence
* Reviewing babies thought to be unwell both on labour ward and the post-natal ward, or those with additional care needs as identified through neonatal alerts and post-natal checks
* Providing support and completing tasks on the transitional care unit such as discharge checks and Badger letters
* Admitting babies to the neonatal unit
* Performing required tasks and procedures on the neonatal unit such as venepuncture and cannulation, and umbilical lines and percutaneous long lines (with support depending on level of experience)
* Attending neonatal ward rounds and carrying out required tasks - this may involve prescriptions of medications and parental nutrition, requesting tests and completing administrative tasks such as referrals on to other specialties
* Our neonatal unit has a strong focus on research. We encourage all our junior doctors to be GCP trained and to be involved in any ongoing studies. This may include identifying potential participants, performing tasks and procedures associated with the trials, and in some appropriate cases recruiting and consenting.

* Previous experience relevant to the specialty
* Previous experience of working within paediatrics or neonates within the UK.
* Applicant knowledge is up to date and is fit to practise safely
* Clinical governance / audit experience
* Experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk
* Out of hours experience relevant to job.

* Experience in the specialty beyond ST1 or equivalent

Qualifications

* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
* Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment
* Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies by the time of appointment in line with GMC standards in Good Medical Practice
* Evidence of achievement of ST1, 2, 3 competencies (or equivalent) in Paediatrics at time of application and likelihood of achieving ST4 competences (or equivalent) in specialty by the start date of the post
* Specialty specific requirements - working towards MRCPCH membership e.g. undertaken Foundation of Practice exam
