Secondary SEN Teaching Assistant - SEMH Specialist

Aspire People are working with a secondary school in Manchester seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team. This role offers the chance to work within mainstream settings, alternative provisions, or on a 1:1 basis, supporting students in small groups.
Key Responsibilities
1. Support for SEMH Needs: Work closely with students with SEMH challenges, tailoring strategies to meet their individual needs.
2. Behaviour Management: Handle and de-escalate challenging behaviour with confidence and professionalism, maintaining a calm and supportive environment.
3. Curriculum Support: Provide academic assistance in Maths, English, and Science at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.
4. Flexible Support: Work across mainstream classrooms, alternative provisions, or in one-to-one settings.
5. Collaboration: Liaise with teachers, SENCOs, and other support staff to create an inclusive and engaging learning environment.
6. Progress Monitoring: Help track and report on student progress, adapting support strategies as needed.
What We're Looking For
1. Relevant Experience: Previous experience in secondary schools, with a background in SEMH support or Youth Work.
2. Behaviour Management Skills: Proven ability to manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour effectively.
3. Curriculum Knowledge: Strong understanding of the UK curriculum, particularly in core subjects at KS3 & KS4.
4. DBS on Update Service: A valid DBS registered on the update service is essential.
5. Empathy and Resilience: A caring, patient, and resilient approach to supporting students with SEMH needs.
6. Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively with school staff and external agencies.
