A leading company in the Food & Beverage industry is seeking an exceptional Director of Engineering to oversee engineering and maintenance functions for an exciting greenfield project in Webster, New York. This permanent position offers the chance to make substantial contributions by steering complex engineering processes with precision and foresight.
Your Role:
As the Director of Engineering, you will be responsible for the overall leadership and management of maintenance, reliability, and engineering functions of the newly built facility. Your focus will be on ensuring the plant achieves and sustains optimal operational efficiency with a key emphasis on safety, quality, and reliability. Additionally, you will inspire, direct, and coach maintenance and reliability teams to meet business and strategic objectives while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Build robust maintenance and engineering programs, including equipment overhaul strategies, spare parts management, technical support, reliability systems, and utility management.
2. Support and guide the implementation of CMMS in the Webster facility, working closely with internal and external partners toward a complete solution.
3. Implement and drive strategic projects and problem-solving routines to increase plant reliability and reduce unplanned downtime.
4. Develop technical subject matter experts and engineering techs responsible for the reliability and efficiency of critical areas within the plant, including UHTs, Aseptic Filling, Utilities, and Packaging.
5. Act as a key stakeholder in the site capital process by developing, supporting, and implementing key capital projects.
6. Oversee and drive capital projects under $5 million that the Capital Engineering projects team is not resourced for.
7. Provide mechanical, process, and technical problem-solving support to operations and quality.
8. Communicate and engage with the workforce at every level to build trust and continuity throughout the teams, consistently demonstrating the company's culture of excellence.
9. Foster an environment of collaboration and ownership across the project team, existing resources, and new leadership to build a world-class factory.
10. Balance short-term goals with long-term objectives and lead the team in executing against competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Basic Requirements:
11. Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
12. A minimum of 10 years of engineering or plant management experience directly related to the outlined duties and responsibilities.
13. Experience in dairy, bottling, or brewing required; pharmaceutical or food experience considered. Aseptic processing experience preferred.
14. Proven ability to identify and mitigate food safety risks with temperature-sensitive pathogen risky raw materials such as milk.
15. Working knowledge of utility systems, processing technology, and controls in manufacturing environments.
16. A proven track record of implementing TPM and LEAN principles to create short- and long-term value.
17. Strong technical skills in deploying and implementing new technologies in a fast-paced environment.
18. Proven leadership abilities, with the capacity to lead a team to achieve goals with trust and integrity.
19. Skilled in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
20. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse community.
21. Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments on sensitive, confidential issues.
22. Proficiency in analyzing and assessing training and development needs and managing performance.
23. Working knowledge of computerized information systems, MES, MRP, CMMS, and SCADA systems.
24. Knowledge of federal and state environmental laws, regulations, procedures, and standards.
25. Knowledge of budgeting, cost estimating, and fiscal management principles and procedures.
Travel Requirements: 50% travel in 2024, 10% in 2025 and beyond
