An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Head of Governance role at Aintree Hospital.
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Governance, the post holder will have a good understanding & knowledge of governance in a Health Care setting and will have responsibility for supporting all aspects of governance across their area of responsibility. This will include advice, management and support of risk, incident and complaints management processes and clinical effectiveness across the Aintree site.
The post holder will have good analytical skills as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills. They will be a natural leader with extensive experience in transforming and leading high performing governance teams. Candidates should have skills and experience of key governance and assurance principles. This role also requires individuals with excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage their own workload without supervision within a busy environment.
Quality Governance and Safety
• Lead and manage the Trust’s divisional governance teams and have overall responsibility for quality assurance, risk management and service
development in relation to the Trust’s divisional governance agenda across divisions.
• Lead the divisional governance team in planning and implementing a range of effective service developments and working in close collaboration with managers and clinicians to improve clinical practice.
• Responsible for the formulation of plans for governance, quality improvement, clinical audit, and complaints across the divisions.
• Responsible for ensuring maintenance and monitoring of clinical standards, including the development and implementation of evidence-based practice, clinical effectiveness, clinical standards, and national performance (clinical) indicators.
• Provide highly specialist advice, support and guidance from ward to board in relation to all aspects of governance
Leadership and Management of Staff
• Deliver effective transformational leadership.
• Ensure staff within areas of responsibility are led, managed and supported.
• Responsible for dealing with any disciplinary and capability concerns
• Provide coaching and mentoring support to the wider Governance Team to support their personal and professional development
• Engagement of staff in the promotion of staff wellbeing.
• Ensure recruitment and retention of staff with the required competencies to meet the service requirements

In collaboration with the Associate Director of Governance and hospital and
divisional leadership teams the post holder will provide visible senior leadership and
direction to ensure that there are effective governance mechanisms in place within
the specialties, care groups and divisions.
The post holder will be expected to implement and sustain the Trust’s quality
governance programmes. This will include co-ordination and leadership of the
Trust’s risk and incident management, litigation, audit and complaints functions
within the divisions.
The postholder will work across multiple divisions and, in close collaboration
with divisional directors, to plan and implement a range of effective service
developments and manage the Governance Leads.
The post-holder will have responsibility for investigation of the Trust’s most serious
incidents and the implementation of associated learning. They will be responsible
for managing the long-term implementation of learning that emanates from safety
alerts, audits and incidents by ensuring there are appropriate assurance
mechanisms in place
