The Treatment nurse will sit within the Older Peoples CMHT at Ribchester centre. This is a very experienced, friendly and dynamic multi-disciplinary team. This is a full-time position within a busy secondary care Older peoples CMHT, the role involves both lone working and working across clinics. The focus is on provision of physical health care monitoring, depot administration and support with medication and its effects to ensure the physical and mental health needs of our service users are met.
Main duties of the job
The treatment nurse is for secondary care mental health services, by providing Anti-psychotic Depot medication administration, and physical health care monitoring. We also offer support which focuses on medication and its effects, as well as any other identified need to assist with maintaining the mental wellbeing of our service users. This involves working closely with the Older Peoples Community Mental Health Team, Consultants, Pharmacists, Carers and other local professionals.
The post holder will participate in the running and ongoing development of the Depot Clinics for the Bury Secondary Care Community Mental Health Services. You will work across community and hospital clinic settings, promoting continuity of care and effective communication regarding the treatment and support for service users under the care of the team.
Job responsibilities
1. To support and implement care that meets the mental, physical, spiritual, psychological and social needs of the patient, being sensitive to age, culture, race, gender, ethnicity, sexuality and disability.
2. To monitor the effects and side effects of medication in the community, with guidance from relevant professionals, such as the nursing team, consultants and pharmacists.
3. To administer intramuscular injections and monitor the effects of these, with the knowledge of contraindications and side effects, being able to relay accurate information to patients in a format that they are able to understand in accordance with SOP0031.
4. To undertake venepuncture in the context of physical health monitoring, after relevant training and ongoing guidance.
5. To undertake physical health checks, interpret results and respond to and report concerns appropriately.
6. Assessment, Care planning and Risk Assessment in line with Trust Policy.
7. To be able to identify and respond to concerns appropriately.
8. The ability to make a judgement about a patients mental health or wellbeing needs and act appropriately to manage needs/risks.
9. To maintain the safe storage of medical equipment within the clinical setting, in line with Trust Policy.
10. To monitor clinical stock supplies levels and support in the maintenance of adequate stock levels.
11. To take responsibility for maintaining the safe use of clinical equipment used within the role.
12. To contribute to the provision of a safe clinical environment and promote the dignity of patients.
13. To carry out team Audits with support as required.
14. To prioritise workload based upon the patient needs/service demands.
15. To support multi-disciplinary meetings and contribute to information sharing and clinical decisions regarding service users in the care of the CMHTs.
16. To support patients whose health and wellbeing is at risk, acting upon and reporting concerns appropriately.
17. To have the ability to accurately communicate information to patients in a format that they are able to understand.
18. To demonstrate understanding of the distress and emotional impact caused by mental illness for patients and their carers.
19. To adopt a non-judgemental approach with patients based upon respect and dignity.
20. To assist patients, as required, to obtain support from agencies such as welfare rights, employment support, housing and substance misuse services.
21. To assist patients to develop skills for everyday living i.e. budgeting money, shopping, cooking, establishing or improving social networks, accessing local services etc.
22. To have the ability to identify limitations and to be able to seek assistance and guidance from senior staff as necessary.
23. To ensure the safety, wellbeing and interests of patients, staff and visitors.
24. To have an awareness of and follow Local and National policies and procedures in relation to the clinical role.
25. To demonstrate an understanding of the psychosocial impact that mental illness can have on service users and their carers to be able to promote their wellbeing.
26. To support care programmes, reviewing and modifying care programmes in consultation with the multi-disciplinary team.

30. To account for your own professional practice in accordance with the NMC professional code of conduct, and to maintain the requirements for regular re-registration.
31. To keep up to date with current trends in mental health care government policy and research based practice with particular relevance to this service user group.

Qualifications and experience
Essential
* RMN
* Post qualifying experience in a relevant area of mental health
* Evidence of good holistic mental health assessment, care planning and risk assessment skills.
Desirable
* Some experience of working with users of mental health services in the community
Knowledge

* Knowledge and understanding of the safeguarding of both children and vulnerable adults.
* Good understanding on Physical health and its impact on Mental health.
