An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a Special school nurse into our SSN service. It is essential that the successful candidate has recent experience and excellent clinical skills in caring for children/young people with complex health care needs.
Full time, Term-time plus two working weeks contract.
The post will be predominantly in the North of the County; however, there is an expectation this will also cover our countywide service to support the team and caseload. It is essential that applicants can meet the travel requirements of the post.
As a senior Special school nurse, you will be responsible for prioritisation of tasks and delegation of work and support to band 5 nurses and team administrator.
Excellent organisational skills are required to ensure that schools receive the right training and support to ensure they have the competency and skills to meet the health care needs of children in school. Delivery of training programs to school staff is an essential part of this role and can be delivered to a small or large audience.
The successful candidate will be required to work independently, demonstrate good leadership skills, and be able to manage a caseload of school children with a range of health care needs.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be required to work independently, but support is available through the wider team. This post requires excellent communication skills, flexibility, motivation, innovation, and the ability to work effectively in planning and prioritising workload which is varied and very busy.
Supervision and development of the wider team is a large part of the role to improve and enhance standards and quality of care. You must be able to plan and evaluate care needs, have excellent clinical skills and assessment skills.
The successful applicant must also have good IT skills as this is a large element of recording information for this role e.g. ESR, Care notes, Excel but this list of requirements is not exclusive.
Excellent and clear communication skills and a positive attitude are essential to ensure school staff have the right skills to care for children and young people.
