We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our dynamic, friendly and forward-thinking team as a Lead Physicist (MPE) in treatment planning, working under the Head of Treatment Planning.
The successful candidate will act as MPE and provide leadership and strategic direction in the treatment planning area of radiotherapy physics, working closely with the Head of Treatment Planning.
Ideally, you should have registration as an MPE certificated through RPA 2000, and be a registered Clinical Scientist with the Health and Care Professions Council. However, those with significant experience currently building an MPE portfolio will be considered.
Radiotherapy Physics provides a comprehensive clinical physics service to University Hospitals of Derby and Burton (UHDB), providing radiotherapy treatments to the Trust's population in Derbyshire and Staffordshire. We have 4 Varian linear accelerators, a superficial X-Ray unit, and a well-appointed HDR brachytherapy facility. We utilise SGRT for many of our treatments, including a tattoo-free breast technique. As we enter into an exciting new round of equipment replacement, we are looking to further develop our SABR service, introduce adaptive radiotherapy, and increase our activity in research and development.
Main Duties of the Job
1. Act as Medical Physics Expert as defined by legislation (currently IRMER 2017), providing expert advice in relation to radiotherapy.
2. Act as a lead Medical Physics Expert specialising in treatment planning.
3. Work under the Head of Treatment Planning to take responsibility for the associated documented protocols and procedures for the treatment planning area.
4. Support the development of protocols and competency frameworks for new techniques.
5. Undertake a range of specialist scientific and clinical duties to support all sections of Radiotherapy Physics.
6. Take responsibility for the treatment planning side of clinical trials.

Person Specification
Education, Training and Qualifications
* MSc Medical/Radiation Physics or knowledge equivalent to level of an MSc.
* HCPC registration as a Clinical Scientist.
Experience & Knowledge
* Ability to present highly complex technical issues to colleagues including consultant Oncologists.
* Awareness of current and developing technology as relevant to radiotherapy.
* Experience commensurate with practicing as an MPE.
* Experience of Varian Treatment Planning System.
