At Swindon Borough Council, we want our town to be the best it can be. Our ambitious vision in the new Swindon Plan is supported by realistic transformation programmes, with the people of Swindon at their heart. Because that’s who we’re doing it for – the communities and businesses that make our town great. As part of the Council, you’ll support a friendly local authority making decisions with real impact. It’s all for better public services. Better processes. And a better quality of life, for everyone. Join us, and Swindon will be better with you.
You will be supporting residents who live at Swindon Borough Council owned/managed supported temporary accommodation, assisting them to develop their knowledge, skills and ability to live independently.
We have six supported housing buildings across the borough, where our customers reside, and which will be your main working location, being a presence during the working day providing on hand support and carrying out housing management functions.
You will assess potential new residents, who have been granted a homeless duty, for their suitability for supported housing, many with vulnerabilities, which you will then be responsible for allocating any empty properties in a prompt manner.
You will provide housing related support to a small number of residents in our schemes to ensure that they are 'Tenancy Ready' in order to successfully move on to their next tenancy, at the correct time. We aim to break the cycle of tenancy failure and your job will be to equip residents with the necessary skills to sustain a future tenancy - support ranges from basic benefit advice and assistance to challenging behaviours that may have led to previous tenancy breakdown.
You will need to have a good understanding of health and safety and welfare benefit system, as well as understanding of safeguarding issues, identifying and acting upon concerns around child protection and domestic abuse, including participation and contributions to multi agency meetings, as well as signposting those in need of further support whether this be for addiction or health and wellbeing concerns.
You will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check.
You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act “for the effective performance of a customer-facing role”).
As an employee, you will receive a diverse and exciting environment in which to work, encouraging creativity and innovation whilst recognising the need to support ongoing personal development and a flexible work life balance.
For Swindon to thrive in the future, we need to lay the foundations now. It’s why our regeneration and transformation programmes are already underway. So, you’ll be joining us at an exciting time on our journey. We’ll look to you to share your knowledge, influence decisions and drive real, positive change. With your contributions, we’ll achieve our vision of a prosperous, re-vitalised Swindon together. And you’ll be proud to say it was made better with you.
