The Assistant General Manager post is an exciting opportunity to broaden and strengthen operational experience, and gain responsibility for a diverse service line of busy inpatient therapy specialties within an acute trust setting.
The role will be assisting with the operational management within the service line which is part of a supportive, inclusive, proactive Division. You will be responsible for day-to-day problem solving across all the specialties, managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders and the opportunity to initiate high-level strategic plans with the support of your line manager.

Main Duties of the Job
1. The post holder will hold responsibility for assisting with the day-to-day management of defined clinical areas and activities.
2. Proactively work in close partnership with the team to drive improvement, embed change and standardise practice based on local requirements, national guidelines and clinical best practice.
3. Responsible for day-to-day operational management of the service line, as well as direct line management of the administrative team.
4. Provide support in a complex and rapidly changing service ensuring best practice is met and that data quality and validation is delivered according to agreed timescales.
5. Develop independent problem-solving ability towards strategic decision making in order to deliver change initiatives and process efficiencies.

Job Responsibilities
1. Support the Head of Service and Clinical Leads with patient pathway management and outcome data.
2. Provide front line day-to-day management of defined operational areas linking with the clinical leads in all matters affecting the delivery of core services.
3. Develop business proposals and assist the Service Lead in the implementation of business plans, operational strategies and delivery of Trust objectives.
4. Provide frontline management of the administration team.
5. Assist in maintaining the delivery of patient pathways, analysing complex data, and supporting the team to achieve this.
6. Participate in a wide range of meetings and represent the Service Lead as requested.
7. Facilitate collaborative working across organisational boundaries.
8. Line management duties relating to recruitment, performance management, appraisal and development of staff within specific areas of the service line.
9. Carry out other duties as required from time to time as directed by the General Manager or the Divisional Director of Operations, Chief of Service and Divisional Nursing Director.

1. Ensure you, and the staff under your line management, are compliant with trust mandatory training and actively engaged in the appraisal process.
2. Engage with the trust HR teams to ensure line management is appropriately supported and delivered.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Educated to a degree level or equivalent.
* Evidence of ongoing professional development such as attendance at management training (I Lead, I Manage).
* GCSE English and Maths to C grade or higher.
Experience
* Experience of working within the NHS, ideally within an acute hospital environment.
* Previous experience in a relevant specialty.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
* Able to prioritise own workload and that of others as appropriate.
* Able to supervise and manage those members of staff under line management.
* Able to effectively and appropriately analyse data and interpret results.
* Self-motivated and able to work under own initiative and prioritise workload.
