The Acute Physical Deterioration implementation network will be aligned to the Critical Care, Trauma and Emergency Medicine Strategic Network. It will take forward the acute deterioration work across all patient groups including adults, children and young people, pregnant people and neonates. The implementation network will therefore work closely with the Maternity and Neonatal Strategic Network and the Child Health Network.
The Network Clinical Lead, in partnership with the Network Manager, will ensure the Network undertakes its purpose to provide intensive support leadership and oversight of the implementation programme for standardised Early Warning Scores across NHS Wales. The network will:
1. Work closely with health boards and trusts to support their adoption of the standardised Early Warning Score tools.
2. Support the development of deteriorating patient pathways which includes the integration of these tools into effective response systems.
3. Monitor progress with implementation and provide national updates to the Welsh Government.
In addition to these Network-specific roles, the National Clinical Lead will contribute to the broader clinical work of the NHS Executive, providing advice and support to the Directorates within the NHS Executive.
Main duties of the job
As Clinical Lead for an implementation network, the post holder will both work in partnership to develop and deliver the aims and objectives of the network. The successful individual will provide oversight and support for the network as well as working in conjunction with Strategic Clinical Networks as part of the Networks and Planning Directorate of the NHS Executive. Building on the consensus recommendations for the management of acute physical deterioration across Wales paper, the next phase of service improvement for patients and their families must be to drive forward best practice in the management of acute physical deterioration in all settings. Providing effective systems for detection, monitoring and escalation of care that can minimise risks for the population of Wales, based upon current evidence and lived and learnt experience.
To take forward the consensus recommendations for acute deteriorating patients.
Work with colleagues, both clinical and managerial, to build a coherent Implementation Network.
Provide leadership and oversight within the network for a visible data to knowledge quality outcomes framework to drive planning and improvement.
Provide leadership and work with colleagues to drive improvement in clinical outcomes within services in the scope of the network.

* Full appropriate professional registration.
