Staines Preparatory School was founded in 1935 and is the longest established independent, co-educational school for children aged 3 - 11 in the area. Throughout its history, the School has maintained a reputation for high standards of education and pastoral care whilst keeping fees at modest levels. Staines Prep has a current roll of 350 children.
The School, which is non-selective, aims for each pupil to achieve their full potential through the provision of a wide range of opportunities within a secure, happy environment. Pupils are prepared thoroughly for competitive 11+ entrance examinations to independent and grammar schools, as well as for the transfer into the secondary phase.
Staines Prep focuses on far more than academic achievements alone - the children’s wider involvements in music, drama, art, and sport bring to life the true spirit of the School. The SPS Challenge Award in Years 3 - 6 helps pupils to discover and nurture life skills, grow in confidence and gain a wider perspective of the world about us.
The School’s teaching stimulates the interests of the children, encourages personal research, and fosters a lifelong love of learning. Subject specialist teaching commences in Year 4 following a series of assessments at the end of Year 3. A regular programme of trips and visits enhance the curriculum, and the annual residential Challenge trips, Ski Trip, and trip to France are particularly enjoyed.
Staines Prep has some wonderful teaching facilities, including fourteen purpose-built classrooms. Our Founders Building boasts a full-size, multi-functional hall which can be used for sport or the performing arts, and we are proud of our specialist facilities for Science, Art, Design & Technology, and Music. Our Environmental Area, The Sanctuary, allows the children to bring science to life.
The most recent ISI Inspection Report (December 2019) rated the School "Excellent" in all areas.
