About The Opportunity
We are looking for candidates from an environmental background with a passion and experience in life cycle assessments, carbon quantification and management. Joining the team at this critical time for climate action presents a great opportunity to influence the national agenda, shape best practice decarbonisation approaches and play a meaningful role on the pathway to Net Zero.
As an LCA practitioner and senior consultant, you’ll be a key part of our dynamic team, delivering project work and contributing towards our business development initiatives. You will work with data, people and be solutions-oriented with applied experience of lifecycle work in the climate, sustainability and environmental realms. Examples of technical work within this role include assessing assets and products, and producing Environmental Product Declarations for clients. Experience of assessing and improving the environmental impacts of materials, manufacturing, construction methods and nature-based solutions, will be beneficial in this job role.

You’ll be familiar with the challenge companies, projects and programmes are facing and be enthusiastic to learn and contribute directly towards enhancing them. You’ll strive for the transition to safer, greener, cleaner and net zero emissions future.
A typical week would include:
* Working directly with clients to investigate, guide, influence and provide advice on capturing data and calculating environmental impacts.
* Organising data capture and hosting calls, carbon/environmental impact calculations, modelling future scenarios and preparing dashboards of key information.
* Support stakeholder engagement workshops internally and externally to actively contribute to low impact ideas and solutions, as well as decarbonising and enhancing sustainability in the design of infrastructure and development projects.
* Understanding and communicating relevant policies/standards to clients, in support of them developing their own strategies and reduction plans.
* Supporting wider projects (e.g. carbon accounting, ESG strategies, net zero road maps).
* Provide guidance and learning to other members of the team to support LCA upskilling.
* Contributing to marketing, strategy and capability documents – supporting business development for LCAs including representing WSP at industry and online events, and in thought-leadership.
* Contributing to large and complex proposals.
You’ll be part of a dynamic and growing team that:
* Works directly with private and public sector clients to investigate, guide, influence and provide leading advice on sustainability, carbon, climate, ESG, circular economy and E&S management.
* Influences the decarbonisation agenda and sustainability in the design of infrastructure across buildings and infrastructure.
* Prepares the groundwork to be able to pursue meaningful and purpose-led strategies, including setting targets (e.g. science-based, and net zero road maps, plans and designs) especially with public sector authorities.
* Works across technical teams, such as liaising with engineers, to learn from and gain support on projects.
* Delivers carbon assessments for both infrastructure projects and ESG clients, following international standards and best practice principles, such as GHG Protocol and PAS 2080.
* Supports a huge range of UK and international development projects.
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…
* You will have experience in a professional business environment, for instance in engineering and/or environmental consultancy, as part of an in-house team or other relevant organisation (industrial, manufacturing) working in this field.
* Experience of delivering complete lifecycle assessments across of range of sectors. We have a particular interest in the built environment and process-related industries, such as chemicals, manufacturing, or oil and gas.
* Extensive familiarity with LCA methodologies, including consequential LCA, and proficiency in industry-standard LCA software.
* A positive attitude to interacting with clients, stakeholders and colleagues and the confidence and ability to speak-up to drive change in sustainability topic areas.
* Applied knowledge of UK and international legislation, LCA standards and guidance, and best practice principles, especially where this includes approaches to carbon management.
* A relevant degree at Masters’ level (or equivalent experience or knowledge) in environmental sciences, engineering or the sustainability realm, and
* A robust level of competence in conducting numerical analyses in Excel and other digital apps/packages (e.g. LCA tools, MS Excel, Power BI).
