Dorset County Hospital is looking for a motivated individual to join our team providing a seven day service to the Trust. This is an ideal opportunity to develop your career in a proactive and innovative hospital environment. This is an exciting new position within the department, looking to support the DEXA scanning service at South Walks House, as well as opportunities in the main radiology department.
Applications are sought by those wishing to train as a band 3 apprentice assistant practitioner, as well as those who have the required qualifications and are ready to start as band 4 assistant practitioners.
The Diagnostic Imaging Department at Dorset County Hospital is a cohesive, friendly and forward looking department. We pride ourselves on a supportive environment for all Diagnostic Imaging staff and are very proud to be accredited with the Quality Standard for Imaging.
The post will require post holders to work across all community sites including the new out-patient centre in South Walks House in Dorchester.
Main duties of the job
As an Assistant Practitioner you would be expected to work in one or more modalities of the department, if you have already specialised in a specific modality we would be pleased to make use of your existing skills.
As a department we are proactive in offering training opportunities to all our staff, whether you want to undertake further formal training or develop your practical skills

We are the main provider of acute hospital services to a population of around 300,000, living within Weymouth and Portland, West Dorset, North Dorset and Purbeck. We also provide renal services for patients throughout Dorset and South Somerset; a total population of 850,000.
Dorset County Hospital has around 350 beds, seven main theatres and two day theatres, and has been designed with a major commitment to Public Arts in Hospital.

Education Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
* Foundation degree or equivalent in Diagnostic Radiography
* Experience in the NHS
Desirable criteria
* Experience in a Radiology Department
Skills and Abilities
Essential criteria
* Evidence of ability to communicate with patients, relatives and all levels of staff throughout the organisation
* Understanding of current legislation relating to the use of Ionising Radiation
* Evidence of ability to work on own initiative but also as part of a team
Desirable criteria
* Understanding of Clinical Governance and how it relates to the Diagnostic Imaging service
