Job Summary:
The Education Lawyer will provide expert legal advice and support to the local authority on education matters, including Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND), school exclusions, admissions, and Judicial Reviews. The role requires strong advocacy skills to represent the authority in legal proceedings, including tribunals and court hearings.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide legal advice on SEND, school exclusions, admissions, and Judicial Reviews, ensuring compliance with relevant laws.
* Represent the local authority in hearings and tribunals, including SENDIST cases and school exclusion appeals.
* Work closely with Children’s Services teams to offer legal support in decision-making and policy development.
* Stay up-to-date with changes in education law and provide strategic advice on legal risks.
* Engage with external stakeholders, including schools, parents, and legal partners, to resolve legal issues effectively.
Required Skills and Experience:
* Qualified solicitor with experience in education law, particularly in SEND, school exclusions, and admissions.
* Strong advocacy skills with experience in tribunals and legal proceedings.
* Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
* Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners.
