The Role
You would be joining the leading provider of regulatory and corporate finance consultancy services in the regulated utilities sector, working in the Finance practice.
As a Director you would provide senior leadership to the team, working closely with other Directors and Partners in IAG P&U as part of a ‘one team’ culture. You would have particular responsibility for building our corporate financial management practice, leading the origination and execution of debt capital raising transactions with an initial focus on UK regulated utilities. There will also be opportunities to work on projects related to regulatory finance.
Roles and Responsibilities
• Developing our corporate financial management propositions, including capital structure advisory, ratings advisory and financial modelling for power and utility clients
• Providing detailed credit assessment and debt capacity analysis, assessing market-based funding options and advising on potential available terms
• Working with other KPMG specialists to lead and execute debt advisory transactions, including refinancing, structured finance and capital raising
• Bringing a corporate finance perspective to regulatory finance mandates, including regulatory financeability assessments
• Building enduring client relationships and becoming the go to person for utilities, infrastructure funds and financial institutions on relevant market opportunities.
• Nurturing and developing talent within the Finance team; performance management, coaching and mentoring of team members.
• Developing collaborative networks and successful partnerships across P&U and the wider firm; supporting colleagues in a wider ‘go to market’ strategy
• Leading client engagements on a day-to-day basis; producing, reviewing and overseeing development of high-quality documentation and presentations.
• Ensuring KPMG's quality and risk management procedures are completed to the appropriate standard.
• Developing sector specific market intelligence.
• Any other duties commensurate with the senior nature of the role.
The Person
Skills, Qualifications and Experience
• Extensive experience in debt advisory or debt capital markets with a boutique advisory firm, investment bank, financial consultancy or infrastructure investor
• Strong understanding of debt products and derivatives, particularly those relevant to covenanted financing structures
• Knowledge of infrastructure and project finance rating agency methodologies
• Experience of corporate and project finance modelling and ability to review, challenge and guide junior team members
• A strong understanding of the UK (and ideally European) utilities sector, including regulatory frameworks, composition, stakeholders and relevant policy debates.
The ideal candidate will be familiar with RAB-based and other regulatory regimes in the UK power and utilities sector, as well as regulatory finance principles
• An entrepreneurial mindset with willingness to develop a new practice area
• A track record of working well with others from a wide variety of disciplines and backgrounds and collaborative approach to work with colleagues at all levels.
• Ability to support and develop more junior colleagues to get the best out of people.
