We are looking for a confident and experienced Health and Safety Advisor to be based at our Laboratory in Crayford. With previous, hands-on experience in a similar role and familiarity with maintaining HSE management systems certified to ISO 45001:2018 and ISO 14001:2015, this role is responsible for ensuring appropriate support and arrangements are in place to control any site-based HSE risks. The successful candidate will enhance the company’s HSE culture and prevent accidents and occupational diseases for all employees, contractors, third parties, and visitors.
With experience in producing COSHH assessments and undertaking internal audits, this role is the first port of call for all HSE-related issues for our Laboratory in Crayford and must have a weekly presence at our laboratory in Lenham.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Support the HSE Leader and relevant site managers and teams to ensure that the HSE processes are integrated into wider business processes.
2. Provide ongoing HSE support to the business operations.
3. Participate in the development and maintenance of the company’s Integrated Management System to ensure that it meets the relevant ISO standard requirements.
4. Communicate, coordinate and at times lead in the implementation of HSE objectives and associated projects.
5. Be an active member of the Management Team and HSE Team.
6. For both Labs, lead on the compliance with the HSE legal requirements and industry best practice.
7. Lead on the undertaking of HSE Risk Assessments.
8. Jointly with departmental managers identify HSE training needs and ensure relevant training is provided to ensure legal and other requirements are met.
9. Support the operational managers to ensure that all the operational safety and environmental checks are being completed regularly and the identified actions addressed in a timely manner.
10. Act as the company’s fire officer and liaise with the Fire Brigade in case of an emergency.
11. Ensure regular emergency response exercises and drills are conducted to ensure the highest level of preparedness in any emergency.
12. Lead or support the investigation of HSE incidents.
13. Contribute to the monthly report by providing information about the status of HSE performance.
Qualifications Required:
1. Must hold a valid UK driving licence.
Experience Required:
1. Experience in ISO 14001 and 45001 is essential.
2. Expertise or specialism including relevant qualifications would be desirable in some or all of the following:
1. Level 3 Award in Training and Education;
2. Competency in producing COSHH assessments;
3. Experience in water hygiene, environmental or analytical services with robust knowledge of chemical safety.
