The Opportunity We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate molecular biology technician to join our team in Cambridge, UK. In this role, you will leverage state-of-the-art biochemical, molecular biology and cellular techniques to assess and quantify RNA stability, cellular delivery, and functional activity (in vitro and ex vivo), contributing to the development of next-generation RNA-based therapeutics. Working in a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment, you will collaborate with chemists, molecular biologists, and AI specialists to progress our RNA research. Key Responsibilities Large-Scale mRNA Production: Perform and optimize IVT reactions to generate high-quality mRNA for research and therapeutic applications. Plasmid Preparation: Scale up plasmid DNA production as the foundation for IVT, ensuring high yields and purity. Validation & Quality Control: Run qPCR, PAGE gels, and other analytical techniques to validate mRNA integrity, purity, and functionality. Lipid Nanoparticle (LNP) Formulation: Assist in LNP encapsulation of mRNA and contribute to the optimization of RNA delivery systems. Process Development: Work closely with the team to scale up and optimize mRNA synthesis, purification, and encapsulation workflows for large-scale applications. Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs): Develop, refine, and implement SOPs to ensure process reproducibility and compliance with industry standards. Collaboration & Documentation: Work cross-functionally with R&D and manufacturing teams, maintain detailed records, and contribute to process improvements. Root cause analysis: Execute and troubleshoot biochemical assays to ensure the production of high-quality RNA for in vitro and in vivo studies Foster a culture of scientific rigor, innovation, and teamwork across disciplines and geographies What We’re Looking For Hands-on experience with in vitro transcription (IVT) and mRNA production. Experience with plasmid DNA preparation, qPCR, PAGE gels, and RNA analytical techniques. Experience with cellular and biochemical assays such as ELISA, enzyme activity assays, reporter genes assays and protein purification. Experience in process development, scale-up, and SOP writing in an industrial or research setting. Familiarity with LNP formulation, QC, and RNA delivery systems is a plus. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Strong analytical aptitude with the ability to work at the interface of chemistry and biology Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary research environment. Good to have Understanding of chemical RNA modifications and experience of handling synthetic RNA oligonucleotide. Knowledge of purification and analysis techniques such as HPLC and LC-MS for synthetic RNA oligonucleotide. Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or a related field and at least two years hands-on experience Industry experience is a plus, particularly in RNA therapeutics, oligonucleotide modifications, or nucleic acid chemistry. A strong track record of team work, timely delivery on milestones and scientific contributions.
