Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist
Are you an experienced, innovative and compassionate Speech and Language Therapist looking for a different, new and exciting role?
Have you considered working within inpatient mental health?
Following substantial investment in Derbyshire's mental health services, we are able to invite applications for a band 7 Speech and Language Therapy role within our growing team.
The role will offer the opportunity to work on our adult wards in Derby and Chesterfield as a valued part of a supportive multidisciplinary team. You will receive regular clinical and managerial supervision and also have access to wider learning and development opportunities. You will also be able to participate in quality improvement projects and service development, including the opening of our purpose-built new PICU unit in early 2025.
This role could be for you if:
* You are an experienced band 6 or existing band 7 SLT skilled in independently managing adult caseloads (for example acute inpatient or learning disability). Some experience of mental health would be an advantage but not essential.
* You are excited to develop new knowledge and skills in order to work and progress within an evolving area of Speech and Language Therapy.
* You are passionate about working collaboratively, holistically and creatively to achieve best possible patient outcomes.
* You are able to travel independently between our wards in Derbyshire.
Main duties of the job
As a member of the multidisciplinary team, you will provide highly specialist clinical support to the PICU and ECU wards, providing a range of assessments and interventions to support patients with eating, drinking, swallowing and communication needs. You will work collaboratively with patients, carers and other professionals through joint working, attendance at relevant meetings and open communication to identify and work towards shared goals and to promote safety and quality of life for patients in your care.
As a senior clinician within the inpatient SLT team, you will provide clinical supervision to junior team members and provide urgent clinical support for our older adult and working age adult wards when other team members are on leave.
You will also work with the Divisional Lead SLT to develop and enhance inpatient SLT services including creating communication and EDS friendly ward environments and delivering training.
While the role is predominantly based at Kingsway Hospital, there may be a requirement to travel to other sites for the purposes of training, meetings or clinical cover. Therefore the ability to travel independently is required.
