Position Overview
We are seeking a friendly, bubbly, and proactive Female Personal Assistant to support our 15-year-old daughter, “S.S.”, who has learning difficulties and traits of autism. The main purpose of this role is to help her engage in social activities and expand her interests.
About S.S.
S.S. is a lively and talkative teenager who loves drawing, music, animals, dancing, and theatre. She has a warm personality, a great sense of humor, and is curious! S.S. has Global Developmental Delay and autistic traits, so she will need assistance staying on topic in conversations and redirection to navigate her fixations and emotions.
Additional Support Needs:
* Social Situations: S.S. may feel a bit nervous before activities and might need gentle encouragement to relax and enjoy new experiences.
* Safety Awareness: She requires close supervision when crossing streets, as she can be lax in checking for traffic.
* Friendly but Boundaries-Aware: She may be overly friendly with strangers, so awareness of boundaries is important.
* Medical Information: S.S. has ADHD and well-managed epilepsy, requiring no direct intervention from the PA.
Key Responsibilities:
* Take S.S. out for activities, such as trips to the park, shopping, bowling, cinema, theatre, art and craft sessions.
* Help plan a weekly schedule of activities, providing ideas and suggestions to create a balanced routine.
* Engage in creative projects with S.S. and seek out new experiences and events to expand her interests.
* Provide basic personal care support when needed, as in washing hands after the toilet.
Ideal Candidate:
We are looking for someone who is:
* Cheerful and outgoing and enjoys working with teenagers.
* Comfortable helping a special needs teenager navigate social settings and learn social boundaries.
* Creative, proactive, and adaptable, willing to support a variety of activities.
* Experienced with children or young people with additional needs - this is an advantage, but not essential.
Practical Requirements
* A car is preferred to facilitate outings from our home and from S.S. school. Mileage will be reimbursed. We will also consider non-drivers on a case-by-case basis.
* Flexibility is encouraged - working hours per week would ideally be split into 2-hour blocks due to S.S.’s focus and stamina.
* Employment basis can be Self Employed at - £14.76 per hour.
