Job Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) to join our team at Rosedale Court, a 22-bed mixed open Rehabilitation unit located at 75-79 Greenford Road, Harrow, HA1 3QF. Our teams use a multidisciplinary approach to care, providing a range of nursing, medical, therapies and psychological input.
We are looking for applicants who are able to work creatively and effectively in a busy and demanding role. The successful candidates will be able to demonstrate progressive skills in leadership, supervision, clinical practice, service development, risk assessment and care management. You must be committed to the trust values of compassion, respect, empowerment and partnership. The applicant should have a clear understanding of the importance of rehabilitation and be interested in working with patients with severe and enduring mental health problems to develop their life skills, improve their independence and support them during their journey to recovery. You should have good communication skills and be committed to providing person-centred care with a sound knowledge of best practice. Main duties of the job
Band 5 nurses work in partnership with the people who use our services, their families, friends and carers and play an important contribution in how people experience their care and relate to other people. Band 5 nurses are expected to be compassionate, responsive and approachable but professional and informative and contribute to the quality of the service provided to the people in our care:
1. Keeping the people who use our services as safe as possible through the use of sound clinical skills and effective risk assessments;
2. Ensuring the best possible clinical outcomes by using up-to-date skills and adhering to evidence-based policies and procedures;
3. Empowering people through working in partnership throughout their care and treatment in the service.
4. Supporting the development of junior staff and improved care delivery through effective supervision and the use of reflective practice.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
1. You will be a current RMN or soon-to-be qualified RMN.
2. You will possess sound clinical risk assessment and management skills.
3. Good knowledge of the Mental Health Act (1983), CPA and NMC code of conduct.
4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
5. Ability to work both as part of a team and on your own initiative and respond creatively to service provision and service user needs.
6. Maintaining accurate, legible, comprehensive records.
7. Safeguarding people by recognising and responding when an adult or child might be at risk from abuse but also recognising their own limits and asking for help and escalating concerns when necessary.
8. Escalating safety concerns and by doing so acting as effective advocates for those who use our services.

Essential criteria
1. Registered Mental Health Nurse Diploma/Degree in Nursing.
Desirable criteria
1. Mentorship.
Experience
Essential criteria
1. Ability to work proactively with people in planning their recovery utilising the nursing process and act accordingly if changes occur.
2. Keeping accurate contemporaneous records.
3. Knowledge of medicine and the safe administration of medication.
4. Practical experience of providing high-quality care and exceeding expectations.
Desirable criteria
1. Experience in a rehab setting.
2. Experience in an Acute setting.
Skills/Abilities
Essential criteria
1. Able to actively participate in TMVA (Therapeutic Management of Aggression and Violence).
2. Treat people with respect and dignity.
3. Use of initiative under minimal supervision.
4. Able to provide supervision & support to junior staff & students.
5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

1. Mental Health Act 1983 (amended 2007) Parts 2 & 3.
2. Understanding of the application of the Care Programme Approach.
3. Current developments in mental health care and nursing practice.
4. Able to assess, plan treatment for and review nursing care needs.
5. Knowledge and understanding of SMI on people’s physical health.
Desirable criteria
1. Knowledge and understanding of the importance of effective supervision and appraisal systems.
2. Knowledge of MAPPA and the interaction with mental health services.
