Role Summary
The Associate Dean – Foundation Levels will lead and oversee academic and administrative functions, driving alignment with the organisation’s vision of delivering exceptional student experiences. The role involves strategic curriculum development, faculty leadership, and quality assurance while fostering innovation in teaching and learning.
As a member of the Senior Management Team (SMT), the Associate Dean will guide foundation-level programmes, ensuring the highest academic standards and supporting student retention, achievement, and progression.
The ideal candidate will exhibit a “can-do” attitude, demonstrate innovative thinking, and embrace the organisation’s experiential learning philosophy, which emphasizes real-world skills, student engagement, and reflective practices.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead academic programmes, ensuring quality teaching and adherence to the institution’s strategic goals.
* Collaborate with stakeholders to enhance curriculum development and student outcomes.
* Manage academic staff recruitment, performance, and professional development.
* Maintain partnerships with universities and awarding bodies to ensure compliance and innovation.
* Develop and implement strategies to improve student retention, engagement, and success.
* Drive the integration of learning technologies and promote best practices in teaching.
* Act as a mentor to faculty, fostering professional growth and excellence in teaching delivery.
* Contribute to institutional change programs that enhance diversity and inclusivity in education.
* Represent the organisation’s partnership meetings and ensure timely reporting and communication.
* Oversee quality assurance processes, including assessment practices and marking criteria.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
* Educated to degree level (minimum); a Doctorate in a relevant field is preferred.
* Teaching qualification or substantial professional experience in higher education.
* Proven experience in managing academic programmes at foundation levels.
* Significant leadership experience in a senior academic role, including change management.
* Strong knowledge of QAA frameworks, UK HE policies, and quality assurance processes.
* Expertise in curriculum design, learning technologies, and innovative teaching approaches.
* Experience managing resources, budgets, and delivering strategic projects.
* Demonstrated ability to inspire diverse student populations and achieve high academic standards.
