We are working with an NHS organisation who are seeking to appoint an Interim Associate Director of Operations.
Key responsibilities will include:
1. Lead the development of Trust wide policies and systems to manage capacity, flow and discharge across the Trust;
2. Provision of visible credible leadership to Group management and clinical teams to support flow;
3. Work with all teams to proactively improve the ED, emergency and elective inpatients' pathway in order to facilitate a seamless delivery of high standards of care ensuring patient safety is maintained at all times;
4. Act as a trouble-shooter and senior clinical decision maker for patient flow when issues are escalated. The post holder will work with the Clinical Groups teams to ensure future learning and development of staff's problem-solving skills;
5. Lead the Operation Centre team and provide the day-to-day senior clinical operational support to enable effective decisions to be made about the daily capacity and flow as well as provide support to developing a robust plan in line with all the required patient safety and quality standards. The decision-making processes should be primarily to enable patient safety but also to make the most effective and efficient use of allocated resources;
6. Provide leadership to the Operations Centre team;
7. Provide the necessary business intelligence and evidence to support the decisions, communicating and empowering the necessary staff to ensure these are actioned;
8. Ensure that appropriate issues are escalated to the right people at the right time to ensure safe and appropriate practice and standards are being maintained. These may be clinical, operational, financial or reputational issues that have wider trust implications;
9. Ensure highly developed communication skills facilitate liaison between departments and between the multi-professional teams and individuals. The role will be required to constructively challenge standards and behaviours, enabling the resolution and learning for those involved.
The ideal candidate will have:
1. Master's Degree or equivalent knowledge gained through experience or a professional qualification;
2. Evidenced based detailed knowledge and experience of the operational management of a major hospital including bed and site management;
3. Extensive senior experience in managing capacity and demand - specifically patient flow;
4. Demonstrable change management experience;
5. Significant management experience including managing a team and change management knowledge;
6. Proven experience of managing a team in a complex and fast moving environment;
7. Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of NHS Healthcare services and current priorities;
8. Extensive knowledge of NHS performance frameworks and standards including targets and KPIs.
