Job summary
We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and experienced Clinical Specialist into South Durham CAMHS Getting More Help Team. The candidate must hold registration with a relevant professional body (e.g., NMC, GMC, HCPC, Social Work-England).
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to become part of a specialised multi-disciplinary team comprising of Consultant Psychiatrists, Nurses, Social Workers, Clinical Psychologists, Family Therapists, and more who provide assessment and therapeutic intervention to young people to support their mental health needs.
To apply for this role, you will have experience in children's mental health services. You will also have an understanding of relevant legislation (Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act), a detailed understanding of Safeguarding, and Clinical Risk Assessment and Management and its application in practice.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be part of a resilient and professional team working collaboratively with internal and external partners to support the needs of those experiencing a deterioration in their mental health and their family/carer needs. The team takes a recovery-oriented, formulation-driven approach, which values shared decision-making.
The successful applicant will be required to contribute to and lead ongoing service development and offer clinical supervision to staff members. The ability to make balanced decisions and use positive risk-taking approaches while managing potentially high-pressure situations is an essential part of this role.
Acting as a resource in providing specialist advice, training, guidance, and consultation to the team and partner agencies is also an integral aspect of the role. The applicant will be an essential member of the multi-disciplinary team and will be able to facilitate the co-coordination of care on a multi-disciplinary basis to children and young people.
You will be able to demonstrate strong clinical leadership, coaching skills, and excellent knowledge of mental health care, complex risk assessment, safeguarding, and its application to practice.

Job responsibilities
The Clinical Specialist will take a lead role in the delivery of clinical service to young people and their families. This will include supervision of clinicians and playing an active role in clinical decision-making along with other clinicians.
The post holder will provide expert care and support to all children, young people, and families referred to the service, providing evidence-based interventions based on need. The post holder will also formulate plans of care and negotiate the implementation of such plans and the sharing of complex, sensitive, confidential, and at times contentious information.

Education/Qualifications and Experience
Essential
1. Registration with a relevant professional body (e.g., NMC, GMC, HCPC, Social Work-England).
2. For nursing professions - Recognised Practice Supervisor and/or Practice Assessor, clinical educator or equivalent and trained in providing clinical supervision.
3. For other professions - evidence of training in clinical supervision of other staff and able to demonstrate competence in this area of practice in clinical supervision of other staff and/or students/trainees.
4. All professions - Postgraduate diploma (or above) in a subject relevant to the area of practice or be willing to work towards and achieve within 2 years.
5. Within the first year of being in post hold a recognised advanced clinical qualification or Masters level credits.
6. And have - Equivalent clinical experience to that of a Post Grad Diploma/master's level such as working as a band 6 (or above) in a relevant clinical area with significant experience.
7. Substantial clinical experience of working in a relevant specialist area in collaboration with service users, families, and relevant others or transferable experience of similar settings and willing to gain knowledge within the first 12 months.
8. Experience of assessing and managing risk (harm to self, others, and safeguarding).
9. Substantial experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team.
10. Involvement in quality improvement activities.
