The Shared Lives Scheme involves a Shared Lives Carer sharing their home and their family (and community) life with an adult who has care & support needs. These needs may include adults with Learning Disability; adults with Dementia; younger adults with complex and or behavioural needs.
For Carers, it provides a flexible, interesting role with a fantastic work-life balance, free training, and the opportunity to work as a self-employed professional with support from the West Northants Shared Lives scheme.
Our Shared Lives carers are just ordinary people, doing extraordinary things!
Types of Care Provided
* Long term accommodation & support - where an adult would live with you and your family.
* Short breaks & respite - where an adult would stay for ad hoc nights, weekends, or weeks, but not permanently.
* Day support - where you would support an adult based from your own home just during the daytime.
You will be self-employed but will be supported, monitored, and regulated by the Shared Lives scheme and undertake any mandatory training provided to meet the complex care needs of the individuals.
About You
All kinds of people can become Shared Lives carers - you don’t need to have any specific experience or training in care already; you will just have a genuine passion for caring for and supporting people. You may be a couple or single, with or without children, a homeowner or a tenant. You will need to be over 18 and have a spare bedroom in your home.
Please note, this role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore subject to an enhanced DBS certificate, and children and adults barred list check.
Shared Lives Carers are self-employed and are responsible for their own Tax & National Insurance, although they can access the Shared Lives Tax relief when they are registered with a Shared Lives Scheme.
Payment ranges for the different types of care are as follows:
* Respite: £60.62-£72.74 per day (paid weekly)
Other benefits include flexibility around family/personal life, training is provided, and you will be doing something amazing that genuinely makes a difference in the lives of others.
