University Hospitals Dorset are looking for an Undergraduate Management Accountant for a placement year!
What will this placement offer me?
Our placement provides an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience of working within a busy finance department, whilst learning and developing management accounting skills. Your time with us will be spent working on supporting core finance functions, directly relevant to your accountancy and finance studies. The knowledge and experience you gain will help you to stand out from the crowd and give you a strong foundation level to progress in a finance career in the future.
In addition to learning about finance, you'll also have the chance to develop core personal skills such as planning, communication, problem-solving, team-working and networking.
What skills do I need?
We are looking for highly organised undergraduates who possess excellent communication and problem solving skills, with good attention to detail. Knowledge of finance and accountancy techniques would also be advantageous. Above all, you must have the commitment, drive and confidence to succeed and get the most out of your time with us.
When can I start?
Our placements start any time from June-September and run for 52 weeks.
This position is for 1 year, Annex 21 Trainee Salary at Band 5 (75% of £36,483 = £27,362 per annum)

Working for our organisation
You will be joining the NHS and University Hospitals Dorset at the most exciting time where we are just recovering from the Covid pandemic at the same time as reconfiguring our services as part of £200m investment with new theatres at Poole Hospital and a large new build at Royal Bournemouth Hospital. Reporting to a Senior Management Accountant, you will help drive the delivery of our large finance function.

Personal Attributes
* Ability to use initiative and demonstrate flexibility
* Well organised with the ability to plan and prioritise own work in order to meet departmental deadlines.
Qualifications
* Certificate level of recognised CCAB body or equivalent (eg: AAT Qualified) or educated to degree level in a relevant specialism.
* Educated to degree level or Certificate level of recognised CCAB body (or equivalent eg: AAT Qualified)
* Studying for Diploma Qualification level of CCAB Accountancy body
Experience
* Previous management accounting experience within the NHS
* Previous experience of monitoring budgets and variance analysis
* Previous experience of data manipulation (with large data sets)
* Previous experience of working within the NHS, preferably within an NHS Foundation Trust.
* Experience in the use of E-Financials software packages.
Knowledge
* Sound, demonstrable knowledge of financial and accounting procedures.
* Knowledge of the organisation's objectives and activities Understanding of the NHS agenda and knowledge of NHS financial framework
