The Finance Director has a pivotal role within the team, ensuring financial reporting accuracy and contributing to a robust internal control environment for QTS's expanding European data center business. This role is critical in maintaining consistency in the finance and accounting functions across all regions of the company, supporting global initiatives, and interacting with key internal and external stakeholders. The Director, Finance & Accounting, will be responsible for developing financial processes, preparing management reports, and supporting budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis activities. This role includes taking full ownership and responsibility for maintaining the financial processes and accounting treatment for Europe, and business partnering with other departments to improve processes and controls around the P2P process.
Duties and Responsibilities
The key responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to the following:
Asset Management:
1. Maintain the fixed assets register, ensuring all acquisitions, transfers, and disposals are accurately recorded.
Accounting Oversight:
1. Monitoring assets under construction (AUC) capitalization.
2. Ensure accurate logging and processing of purchase invoices in a timely manner.
3. Vendor payments processed on time.
4. Record asset acquisitions, disposals, and transfers in the general ledger.
5. Preparation of all balance sheet reconciliations.
6. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for Europe management.
7. Assist in the preparation of financial statements.
Accounting Compliance and Control:
1. Ensure adherence to European and international accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
2. Implement and maintain strong internal controls and risk management procedures.
3. Coordinate with internal and external auditors to facilitate audits and address any findings.
Tax Coordination:
1. Collaborate with the tax department to ensure compliance with European tax laws and regulations.
2. Support tax planning and strategy efforts by providing relevant financial data and insights.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
1. Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts.
2. Monitor capital projects to ensure they are completed within budget and properly capitalized.
Cash and Equity Management:
1. Ensure effective cash flow management and liquidity planning, in partnership with the Treasury department.
2. Develop and implement robust cash forecasting processes.
3. Support equity activities, including execution of capital allocation and funding strategies in collaboration with QTS, investors, and external partners.
Process Improvement:
1. Build, monitor, and maintain the P2P process in collaboration with other QTS departments and Blackstone. R2R processes and O2C will follow.
2. Implement best practices and process enhancements to increase efficiency and accuracy.
Collaboration:
1. Work closely with other departments, such as pre-development, development, operations, procurement, and IT, to ensure accurate and timely recording of transactions.
2. Provide guidance and support to other team members on P2P matters.
3. Business partnering with the Europe management team.
1. Any other reasonable requests made by the Vice President of Accounting & Finance, Europe.
What success looks like in 12 months' time:
1. Development of a comprehensive and fully documented P2P process, ensuring all vendor ledgers up to date, commitments known, assets capitalized, and positive feedback from the wider team.
2. Help to develop Workday functionality to be as automated as possible and documented process notes.
3. Demonstrable strong working relationships developed with all QTS departments.
Qualifications:
1. Qualified accountant (ACCA/ACA/CIMA) with 5+ years of experience.
2. Proven experience in creating and establishing best in class P2P, R2R, and O2C processes.
3. Familiarity with European tax laws and the ability to coordinate effectively with the tax department.
4. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
6. Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems.
7. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and global environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Experience working in a multinational corporation.
2. Proficiency in multiple European languages.
3. Proficiency in U.S. GAAP, local GAAP, and IFRS principles.
Working Conditions:
1. This position requires occasional travel within Europe and to the U.S.
2. Flexibility to work across different time zones is essential.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Excellent communicator with executive level managers.
2. Experience with delivering high-level presentations to company executives.
3. A strategic thinker with an understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and financial processes.
4. Professional agility.
5. Intermediate/advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
6. Experience with automated accounting systems.
7. Must have the ability to effectively interface with all levels of the organization.
8. Demonstrate willingness to partner across internal departments with competing priorities.
