Job Summary
Applications are invited for the above full-time post for this 660 bedded acute hospital serving a local population of approximately 400,000. The appointment will be made in accordance with the terms and conditions of service for the 2003 consultant contract (England).
This is an exciting time to join the Imaging department at Luton & Dunstable Hospital, which has now merged with Bedford Hospital to form the Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The Imaging department has been rated excellent and well led by the CQC and an exemplar unit by GIRFT.
We are looking for a candidate who has expertise in both cardiac and thoracic imaging including performing lung biopsy. Cardiac MRI expertise is highly desirable to support this newly developed service at the Luton site.
The successful candidate will join three other thoracic radiologists who participate in the weekly lung cancer MDT and perform CT guided percutaneous lung biopsies at the Luton site.
The successful candidate would be required to participate in the general radiology workload at the Luton & Dunstable hospital and participate in the on-call rota at Luton and Dunstable hospital currently 1:19 rota. Home working is supported across both sites. All consultants have home reporting equipment including voice recognition software.
Main Duties of the Job
The Key tasks for the role of Locum Consultant in Cardio Thoracic Imaging:
* Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of all patients presenting to the Hospital.
* To deliver a high-quality diagnostic imaging service.
* To share, with colleagues in the Imaging Department, the management of all patients referred to the Trust.
* To participate in the delivery of on-call.
* To participate in teaching and training of specialist registrars, junior medical staff, radiographers, nursing staff, and medical students. In addition, the post holder will support Clinical Nurse Specialists and sonographers.
* To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
* To have responsibility for and actively participate in continuing professional development (CPD).

Person Specification
Training Essential:
* Training and experience equivalent to that required for UK CCT (or within 6 months of it being issued).
Registration Essential:
* Entry on GMC Specialist Register in General Radiology or eligibility to enter it within 6 months from the time of the interview and hold a Licence to Practice.
Qualifications Essential:
* MB ChB or Equivalent
* FRCR
Clinical Experience Essential:
* Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in General Radiology.
* Expertise in all aspects of Thoracic Imaging including percutaneous lung and pleural biopsy.
* Expertise in Cardiac CT imaging and reporting.
* Able to take full and independent responsibility for clinical work and delivering service without direct supervision.
Professional Interest Essential:
* An interest which improves the core clinical service for patients using the imaging service at the Trust.
Communication Skills Essential:
* Excellent verbal and written skills in English.
* Ability to communicate effectively with clinical colleagues, other specialities and support staff.
