Job Description Mechanical Integrity Engineer - Impact and Containment Full Time Derby/Hybrid (3 Days a week in office) What you will be doing As a Mechanical Integrity Engineer you will be responsible for design, analysis, testing and fleet/manufacturing support of aero-engine components to withstand extreme events such as bird strike, trailing blade integrity, ice impact and fan/core blade off. The work is interesting and varied and covers a wide range of programmes. Responsibilities You’ll be tasked with: Execution of implicit and explicit finite element codes such as LS-DYNA for extreme events (fan blade off containment, bird strike, ice ingestion, etc.). Test planning, execution coordination, and analysis to validate tools and methods. Provide engineering support for impact-related requirements development, design, verification, manufacturing and lifecycle sustainment. Agree key technical strategies with cross-functional stakeholders internally and externally. Take a leading role in continual improvement of our engineering methods and processes to develop capability. Fleet Support – providing support to the worldwide overhaul network via the Technical Variance process, including on wing support, resolving customer problems, assessing and approving repair schemes right through to supporting Fan Blade Off investigations. Manufacturing Support – providing support to the manufacturing plants, assessing / approving concessions, production permits, technical acceptance documents and drawing alteration requests. Airframe Support – there are opportunities to be directly involved with the airframe providers such as Boeing and Airbus on all aspects of Impact and Containment work. Fancase Design – from initial concept right through to Certification. This includes being responsible for all aspects of Containment validation testing. This ranges from small scale materials testing, ballistic testing all the way up to Fan Containment Rig and Full Engine Blade Off testing. Engineering Support – providing advice and support to all areas of the company that interface with the fan containment system. This includes Rigs, Development, Externals, Controls, Materials and Stress. Why Rolls Royce? A good understanding of general engineering principles and ability to make decisions using engineering judgment. Ability to demonstrate a clear logical approach to problem solving. Strong Digital skills and capabilities (preferably including Linux). Good technical reporting and presentation skills using Office applications. Experience of collaborative working and dealing with ambiguity and conflict. Ability to travel within U.K. to support testing and research for short periods of time.
