Job summary
The Post Holder will have a minimum three years experience post qualification in the commissioning, maintenance, calibration and repair of a wide range of medical diagnostic and therapeutic devices.
He/She will also be responsible for their own work and monitoring Contractors (in the CE Workshop Managers absence), mentoring junior engineers and representing Clinical Engineering in Trust projects.

Main duties of the job
Provide specialised clinical technical services for preventative maintenance, servicing, inspection and repair to a wide range of complex and patient-critical medical devices and laboratory equipment.
Communicate with clinical users and laboratory staff to gain a clear understanding of the nature of problems with equipment. Assess the seriousness and implications of the problem and respond appropriately to the urgency of the user request.
Undertake advanced fault-finding. Apply suitable fault finding techniques to diagnose problems, including those beyond the scope of manufacturer supplied information. Report novel fault conditions to manufacturers.
Exercise judgement to determine the causes of faults in devices with multiple complex and inter-related systems ( electronic, computer and mechanical systems), which may be due to user error, equipment failure or environmental issues ( temperature, RF interference).
Check that equipment performs to manufacturer's specification.
Carry out calibration, quality control, safety, commissioning and acceptance testing.
Using technical and clinical experience, identify potentially hazardous symptoms and faults when in clinical areas or in talking to clinical on equipment specification, evaluation and selection

Essential
1. Ordinary National Certificate in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
2. City and Guilds Telecommunication Technicians Technological Certificate
3. City and Guilds Electronic Technicians Technical Certificate.
Desirable
4. Higher National Certificate in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
5. Degree in Biomedical Engineering
6. Registration as a Clinical Technologist
Experience
Essential
7. Experience in applying workshop technology to electronic & electro-mechanical equipment.
8. Able to prioritise and manage own work.
9. Able to exercise own initiative when dealing with issues within own specialist area of competence.
Desirable
10. Practical experience in electronic and medical engineering workshop practices and techniques for at least 3 years post-qualification

12. Able to deliver teaching and training on complex equipment to other professional groups ( train nurses in medical device use).
