Role: Outreach Mentor Location: Plymouth Contract: Full time, permanent Working hours: Monday - Friday 08:30 - 15:20, term time only Salary: £95 per day We are thrilled to offer an exciting opportunity for an outreach mentor to make a meaningful impact by supporting pupils who face challenges thriving in mainstream education, special schools, or returning from out-of-county placements. About the school: The school is a teaching base for pupils aged 11 to 16 who have been excluded from school or at risk of exclusion. Pupils follow a secondary-style curriculum of separate lessons, with a strong emphasis on English and Maths. Additionally, pupils benefit from alternative curriculum activities, such as learning outside the classroom experiences and vocational, work-based learning/training. About the role: Outreach mentors play a vital role, working one-to-one with young people to help them access learning and engage in various activities, both inside and outside of school. From participating in countryside-based activities to engaging students through sport, science and other creative methods, this role offers a dynamic and rewarding experience that stands apart from traditional education settings. The role of an outreach mentor is diverse and fulfilling. One day you could be helping a child improve their reading skills, the next you might be supporting students on an educational trip to the museum or farm. Alongside fostering academic development, you’ll play a key role in helping young people build their social and emotional skills. You will work closely with fully qualified teachers who will provide guidance and support throughout your journey. You’ll also have access to a wide range of training opportunities and accreditations, supporting your career development. What you’ll need: A current enhanced DBS registered on the update service (or willingness to obtain one) Confident in working in small groups and one-to-one settings Relevant experience working with children (or adults) with special educational needs is highly advantageous Previous experience working within an educational setting would be beneficial Have a full UK driving licence and have your own vehicle (business insurance will be required) Working with Long-term Teachers: We are an independent agency working with Nurseries, Primary, Secondary and Special Schools.
