Based in Toronto, Canada, SoilFLO is a construction technology startup rapidly expanding into the United Kingdom.
Our software platform is designed to manage the movement of construction materials across projects (think highways, housing, and quarries). Our mission is to eliminate manual, paper-based processes and bring earthmoving projects into the digital age.
Since our launch in 2019, SoilFLO has become established as the market leader in Canada. We are utilised on the world's largest projects, from cross-country pipelines to subway tunnels under major cities.
In 2023, we set our sights on the United Kingdom and expanded operations successfully.
SoilFLO is now looking to hire its first two Business Development representatives (BDRs) to help generate demand in the UK. Reporting to the National Operations and Sales Manager, this role will primarily be responsible for generating new business opportunities within the UK market.
What will you do, specifically?
* Source new business opportunities through various channels like cold calling, emailing, and social media
* Explore innovative ways to engage with potential clients
* Partner closely with the Sales team to create a delightful experience for potential clients
* Qualify potential leads and ensure they are a great fit for SoilFLO’s products
* Work closely with the Sales team to improve the outbound BDR strategy
* Go above and beyond to surpass your quota to help your teammates (and SoilFLO) be successful
What are we looking for?
If you're thinking about applying, here are 10 questions you should ask yourself before jumping in. You do not need to answer favourably to all 10, but this should give you a clear idea of the type of person we’re looking for.
If you’re unsure, ask your friends or family. Communicating confidently and persuasively is at the heart of what a BDR will be doing.
Do I have any sales experience?
If you do, that’s great. If you don’t, find a way to communicate why that doesn’t matter in your case.
Does the idea of being a team’s first hire excite me?
As SoilFLO’s first BDR, you’ll play an instrumental role in shaping demand generation within the company. That being said, you will have the support of many people across the company. Getting this right and scaling our outbound demand generation is of high strategic importance to SoilFLO.
Does the thought of cold calling scare me?
SoilFLO has an incredible product and strong product-market fit but despite this, you will face rejection often. This is the nature of the role, and it’s important that the first person we hire as a BDR be cognizant and comfortable putting themselves out there and facing potential rejection when they do so.
Am I a positive person?
This is a prerequisite. We all have good days and less good days, but overall, if you’re not considered to be a positive person (ask a few friends/colleagues if you’re unsure), then this is probably not the role (or company) for you.
Am I intrigued at the idea of joining a category-defining company?
We are selling software that revolutionizes the construction material management industry in the UK. If you’re excited at the prospect of being a driving force in solidifying SoilFLO’s leading position in the UK, you’ve come to the right place. This job won’t be easy but it will be extremely rewarding for the right person.
Am I interested in working with an amazing team?
SoilFLO has a top-notch team across all departments and at all levels, and the Sales team that you will be a part of is no exception. Also, given the importance of the UK market for SoilFLO’s expansion, many team members from our HQ work on projects within this market.
Do I have a track record of performance?
We have lofty goals ahead of us, and in order to reach them we need top-performing team players. If you’ve typically been towards the top of the leaderboard (work, school, sports, hobbies), we want to talk to you.
Am I looking to be well-rewarded?
In addition to a great team, a great service, and great culture, high-performing sales professionals at SoilFLO are well rewarded.
Have I sold to or worked in the construction industry?
This is not a requirement, but understanding this industry is valuable and could help accelerate ramp and productivity!
Now that you’ve been through 10 key questions about whether or not the BDR role at SoilFLO would be right for you, feel free to reach out if you think you’re a fit, if you think you’d be successful, and if you’re poised to join us to do the best work of your life!
