Job summary
Our four-bed residential home for children, aged 5 17 years, is registered with OFSTED and offers services to young people who have learning disabilities, challenging behavior and complex needs.
The service offers each child their own bedroom and a range of communal living spaces including a large garden room which provides recreational facilities for them to create their own activities. This area is designed to encourage creative and sometimes messy projects.
We also have an amazing sensory/calming room with lights, sounds and textures which are used together to create a stimulating, or calming environment. This area can be used to support individuals with planned activities or just to relax.
Main duties of the job
1. You will support the Registered Manager in the running of the home, particularly in their absence.
2. You will lead shifts and support your team members to provide practical assistance and emotional support to empower our young people to achieve their goals and aspirations. This will involve respecting everyones individuality and enabling them to make appropriate choices to live the life they wish, in line with their individual support plans, you will need to be able to complete a range of records and documents
3. In addition you will assist the Registered Manager with reviewing budgets, staff rotas, complaints and relationship building with external regulatory bodies.

Purpose of the Job
To deliver high standards of care, protection and support to youngpeople with learning disabilities and related complex needs by facilitatingtheir physical, psychological, emotional and recreational development .
Tasks/Duties and Responsibilities
4. Toassist the Registered Manager in ensuring that the Home meets the standards andexpectations of its Statement of Purpose
5. Toassist the Registered Manager and take charge of the home in the Managersabsence
6. Tosafeguard and promote the welfare of the young people and to ensure that thequality of care provided is consistent with Standards.
7. Toassist in the establishing and maintenance of a competent, motivated andconfident staff team and to offer leadership, managerial direction, guidanceand support to the staff team
8. Toensure that the Homes policies and procedures are adhered to and thatresources are managed effectively.
9. Tomonitor systems for the efficient administration of the Home and to ensure thatthe fabric of the Home, equipment, appliances and grounds are maintained to thehighest order in accordance with Health and Safety requirements
10. Toliaise on behalf of the Registered Manager, with Local Authorities, School,Health and other professionals to achieve best outcomes for young people asdirected by the Registered Manager

12. Toensure that all young people are registered with relevant medical services andthat they attend to all their appointments
13. Tomonitor medication administration records for all young people and carryout unplannedaudits of medication in the home as directed by the Registered Manager
Supervisory Responsibilities
14. Responsiblefor supervising the staff team and carrying out supervision sessions as requestedby the Registered Manager
15. Toensure that all key workers are effectively conducting key work sessions and maintainingall case records up to date.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

17. Ensuringthat each young person has a plan which reflects their care, education, social,emotional, cultural, and therapeutic and health needs
18. Toensure that the placement plan is regularly reviewed as directed by the RegisteredManager
19. Assistthe Registered Manager in allocating a Key Worker and a Co-Key Worker wherenecessary, for each person with the principal responsibility of implementingthe Care Plan.
20. Establishingand monitoring high quality standards of care in line with Standards and theHomes Statement of Purpose and developing quality assurance measures to ensurethese standards are maintained.
21. Monitoringsystems in which the young people are consulted about the quality of care theyreceive.
22. Workingin partnership with parents, carers and other professionals to safeguard andpromote the welfare of young people
23. Attendingand contributing to our young peoples care planning and review meetings as directedby the Registered Manager
To manage a staff team through
24. Ensuringa high level of staff retention
25. Assistthe Registered Manager in developing a management style which balances the needto exercise control and give direction with the need to offer staff theopportunity to contribute to decision making
26. Toassist with on-call duties.
27. Ensuringthat all new staff receive a proper induction to the Home in line with Businesspolicy.
28. Ensuringthat each member of staff has a supervision contract and receives supervisionsin a frequent and timely manner
29. Ensuringthat each member of staff has a personal development plan.
30. Ensuringthat each member of staff receives regular reviews during their probationaryperiod.
31. Attendteam meetings to facilitate communication and provide opportunities forconsultation and staff development.
32. Reportingand assisting the Manager in resolving issues of staff motivation and morale
33. Reportingand assisting the Manager in issues in relation to conduct and competence ofstaff.
34. Promotingpersonal and professional development through the appropriate delegation ofduties and responsibilities.
To monitor systems which ensure the effective allocation ofresources through
35. Ensuringadequate staffing levels that meet the needs of the Home as directed by the RegisteredManager
36. Ensuringthat budgets are managed effectively, and the use of finances is properlymonitored.
37. Ensuringthat the Business vehicle(s) are clean and regularly maintained and not damaged
38. Monitoringclosely the fabric of the building (including fixtures, amenities and grounds)and taking remedial action where necessary.
To promote the efficient and effective operation of theHome through
39. Developingin consultation with children, adults and staff routines in relation to allaspects of care.
40. Clarifyingexpectations in relation to maintaining the Home in a clean and orderlycondition.
41. Monitor recordingsystems in place and ensure that they comply with required standards.
42. Attendingto all administration issues in relation to the Home as delegated by the RegisteredManager and/or in their absence.
General
43. Toreceive training appropriate to role and maintain an up-to-date training profile
44. Tomaintain up to date knowledge of the statutory and procedural framework forresidential care and communicate this to staff as appropriate
45. Toundertake any other Managerial duties as may be delegated by the Registered Manager.
Special Conditions
This post requires the DeputyManager to do varying shifts, which include early morning and late evening workand an on-call rota system. The post holder also is required to work weekendsas part of a rota and Bank Holidays.
On occasions you may berequested to change your rota at a given notice to ensure the contingencies ofthe service are covered. This may also include covering at short notice in anemergency situation.
In accordance with theguidelines on Health and Safety, to accept responsibility for working withinthese guidelines and reporting any concerns to the Registered Manager.
