The Team
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Associate to join our commercial team here in Manchester to focus on data privacy and technology.
The team in Manchester includes a partner, four associates, and a trainee. There is expertise in both private and public sector work within the team, and we work closely with the wider national Commercial team, based in London, Birmingham, and Exeter.
We have a passion for non-contentious data privacy, regularly supporting clients and other teams nationally and internationally with data privacy advice and drafting. Our data work includes advisory tasks and a variety of drafting and negotiating stand-alone contracts, as well as inputting into data considerations for other teams, from corporate due diligence support to data sharing within the social housing sector.
Technology contracts are a key focus for our team, which also regularly drafts and negotiates various technology and IT contracts, playing a significant role in the firm-wide technology sector led by the partner in our team.
The key sectors for our team currently include technology, private healthcare, fertility, and social housing, all of which involve interesting data considerations.
The Role
Working as part of a high-performing national team, you will advise clients (many of which are household names) on a diverse range of data privacy matters and technology contracts.
Your role will include key activities such as providing a first-class service to clients, proactive marketing/profile raising, and exceptional client and team/office management. Examples of your work will include:
* Advising on data privacy compliance and formulating analysis and legal strategies;
* Advising on data sharing and processing arrangements, both stand-alone and within wider commercial arrangements;
* Drafting, negotiating, and advising on a wide range of technology agreements, including consultancy agreements, outsourcing arrangements, SaaS licenses, and contracts for IT products and services;
* Handling contractual work, including reviewing technology supplier terms and drafting documents such as IT infrastructure services and cloud solutions;
* Assisting our national corporate teams with data protection due diligence and disclosures;
* Researching and publishing articles, and giving webinars and seminars on topical issues such as AI;
* Initiating, building, and maintaining effective client relationships and proactively participating in business development activities;
* Ensuring files are managed in compliance with Lexcel procedures;
* Proactively participating in department and firm-wide marketing initiatives.
What you will need
The firm has a Career Development Framework that outlines the competencies we expect at these grades. For this role, we require:
* Qualified solicitor or equivalent with 6 years or more PQE in advising on data privacy and technology matters;
* Excellent technical skills and an innovative approach to their application;
* Proven ability to take on responsibility and manage matters independently where appropriate;
* Strong client focus and service delivery.
