A bit about the role This is an exciting opportunity to join Action for Children as a Data Protection Officer in a time of transformation of our data protection practices. Reporting to the Director of Governance, Risk & Compliance, you will have responsibility for strategically developing, delivering, and leading on organisational compliance with all legislation, regulations and best practice relating to the governance and management of information. You will also lead the development of an Information Governance to drive forward best practice within the organisation and to establish and embed, to achieve transformational change in the management of information governance. How you'll help to create brighter futures by Manage a team, whilst also providing leadership and line management. Lead the development, implementation and review of organisational policies and procedures, guidance notes, and templates relating to information governance. Working in collaboration with the Information Security Analyst and the Information Governance Task Force. To lead and develop education and training for all staff and volunteers. Informing and advising the controller, its employees, and any associated processors about their obligations to comply with GDPR and other relevant data protection laws. Challenging and escalating practice to minimise risk. Reviewing contractual documents and tenders to ensure contracts, variations and data sharing agreements are compliant. Let's talk about you Professional qualification in Data Protection or a related area of law such as CIPP/E, BCS, CIPM or ISEB. Experience of providing advice on compliance with the relevant legislation and internal policies and procedures applicable to information governance. Excellent people management skills and the ability to drive forward a team. Detailed knowledge of the legal frameworks applicable to information governance (including Data Protection, General Data Protection Regulations, Freedom of Information, and the Civil Contingencies Act 2004) and their application. Thorough understanding of records management principles and practice and experience of writing polices and the ability to build a new records management system from concept through to implementation as part of Action for Children’s plans to update its existing systems.
