Senior Electrical Design Engineer Annual Salary: Up to £50,000 DOE Location: Newcastle Job Type: Full-time Our client is seeking a skilled and ambitious Electrical Design Engineer to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing AC electrical systems and components for various projects, and will have a strong background in electrical engineering, particularly in LV Power Distribution, industrial control panels, and busbar systems, and will be well-versed in industry standards and best practices. Day-to-day of the role: Lead and provide technical guidance to a growing team of Junior Engineers and Apprentices, ensuring the approval of designs. Design and develop LV electrical systems for Electric Vehicle Charging applications and street lighting, ensuring compliance with project requirements, safety regulations, and applicable standards, specifically BS EN 61439. Create detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications using EPLAN Electric P8 and Pro Panel. Select appropriate components, equipment, and materials for AC power systems, focusing on efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers and project managers, to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems with overall project designs. Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments to evaluate the viability and potential challenges of proposed electrical designs. Support the procurement process by reviewing vendor proposals, assessing technical specifications, and providing guidance on equipment selection. Provide technical support to shopfloor, troubleshooting any issues that arise and ensuring compliance with design specifications, this will be a key part of the role. Document all electrical designs thoroughly, including technical reports, operation manuals, and maintenance procedures. Stay updated with industry advancements, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes relevant to AC power systems, applying this knowledge to enhance design practices. Required Skills & Qualifications: HND/HNC or Degree in Electrical Engineering. Minimum of 5 years’ electrical engineering design experience in a relevant manufacturing environment. Experience with EPLAN Electric P8 is highly desirable. Experience in leading junior staff and familiarity within a manufacturing environment. Knowledge of industry standards such as IEEE, IEC, and BS EN 61349, with the ability to ensure compliance in design activities. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex electrical engineering issues. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. High attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work within specified timeframes.
