Head of Humanities – Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced & qualified Humanities Teacher who is ready to take on the challenge & responsibility of becoming a Head of Humanities. You would be joining an outstanding academy with pupil & staff well-being at the forefront of EVERYTHING they do. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of our team and the development of our highly successful academy.
You will need to be a consistently excellent teacher with a proven track record. We need someone who is ambitious & creative. Someone who can lead by example and work within an already successful Humanities department & team.
Head of Humanities – Responsibilities
1. To work closely with the Quality of Education Team and the teachers within the Humanities team to achieve excellence and high standards for all students.
2. To account for students’ performance in line with Academy procedures.
3. To work closely with the United Learning Subject Advisors.
4. To contribute actively towards the implementation of all Academy policies and procedures, ensuring their consistent implementation.
5. To ensure high quality teaching and learning in Humanities and across the Academy.
6. To participate in duties at lunch, break, before, during and after school in the Academy day.
7. To ensure that the subject knowledge of staff in the Humanities department is exemplary.
8. To ensure that behaviour in the Humanities Department is exemplary.
9. To ensure that Schemes of Learning are of a high quality.
10. To ensure student work is of a high quality.
11. To motivate students to want to be successful in Humanities.
Qualifications and Experience
1. Hold QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree, and, ideally, be able to show evidence of ongoing professional development.
2. Demonstrate outstanding teaching practice and excellent behaviour management.
3. Have experience in lesson observations and giving robust feedback.
4. Have experience in improvement planning and implementing a range of strategies to raise student achievement, with evidence of success.
5. Be able to contribute to improving the quality of learning, teaching, and curriculum.
6. Have a proven track record of excellent results at KS3 and 4, and, ideally, experience teaching to KS5.
