The Role
This role is predominantly focused on safe and effective range operation across a range of dynamic and static trials, but the role involves many other responsibilities including emergency planning and management. You will take a holistic approach to problem solving and be able to work with site Team Leaders and others to ensure effective and safe delivery across multiple range activities. You will understand what good looks like and ensure it is applied consistently. Where issues are identified, you will help resolve them and provide an additional reporting line to the appropriate managers. You will be able to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, escalating concerns and suggesting actions for improvements.
Day-to-day, you will:
1. Ensure that all live firing activities are conducted safely in accordance with the requirements of the Shoeburyness Range Standing Orders.
2. Manage Acoustic Monitoring and the forecasting of noise predictions against Key Performance Indicators and management of weather warnings to site stakeholders
3. Be responsible for the application of approved WDA’s to the MSR and monitoring of the safe place during live firing activity.
4. Ensure that the Range is safe and at an appropriate condition over air, sea and land areas prior to authorising trials to proceed in line with by-laws and Range Standing Orders.
5. Be responsible for the initial control of incidents and co-ordination of emergency service support as required.
Essential experience of the Range Control Manager:
6. The Range Control Manager must have a proven ability to collaborate positively both internally and externally (with customers, regulators and partners) to deliver exceptional performance.
7. You must be an effective and influential communicator at multiple levels, and be able to engage with detail and provide clear concise information to any recipient.
8. You must have experience on working on ranges and have an understanding of safety procedures.
