The Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital is a modern, forward-thinking, large teaching hospital employing 10,000 staff. It has strong links with both the School of Pharmacy with onsite teacher practitioner posts and the Medical School at the nearby University of East Anglia.
The Pharmacy Department provides a comprehensive pharmaceutical service across the Trust and to several external community units. We are a large and busy department with over 180 staff members. There are varied roles, and we all work as a team to provide the different functions and services whilst maintaining a high level of patient care.
Functions of the Pharmacy Department include the ordering, receipt, and supply of medicines to wards and departments throughout the Trust/external units. This includes dispensing for inpatients, outpatients, community units and supplying ward stocks averaging around 2,500 items a day. Wards and external units are provided with a clinical service with Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians an integral part of the multidisciplinary team. The Pharmacy provides Aseptic Services such as the preparation and supply of chemotherapy and other sterile products. We have a Quality Assurance team that works to ensure that our products are prepared and supplied to meet the highest quality standards.
The post is based in the Stores area of the Pharmacy Department which is responsible for ensuring that wards and the dispensary have appropriate supplies of medicines for patients. Part of the role will be to visit wards, check and supply necessary stock, ensure stock is fit for use, and receive and book in stock deliveries. This is a busy, active role, and we are looking for someone who is a team player with good attention to detail with the the ability to be able to work under pressure and respond to a frequently changing environment.
The post holder will also help with returned medicines and ensure that they are disposed of appropriately.
We will provide the required training to complete the units of the NVQ2 or equivalent qualification in pharmacy services within 12 months. The post will involve using the pharmacy computer system and dispensing robot for which training will be given.
Both full time and part time hours are available to be worked Monday to Friday. If you require part time, please specify number of days/hours. There is also a requirement to work 1 in 10 weekends (09:00 – 17:00 Saturday and Sunday) with corresponding time off during the week and to participate in the bank holiday rota, currently minimum 1 per year (09:00 – 17:00).
