The post is for a period of one year and aims to provide doctors with the necessary skills required to become confident and competent teachers while gaining experience within General Medicine. The post holder will be actively involved in supporting the education and simulation programmes for Foundation Year 1 and 2 Doctors, Specialty Trainees, and Locally Employed Doctors throughout the Trust.
1. Clinically, the successful candidate will work with their specialist team and there will also be an acute medical on-call commitment. The teams include a range of STRs, IMT, and Foundation level doctors and are supported by physician associates and advanced clinical practitioners. This post is in addition to normal staffing levels.
2. Clinical sessions will be arranged to avoid interference with Medical Education responsibilities.
3. Delivering clinical and simulation teaching sessions to a multi-professional audience.
4. Delivering small group teaching sessions for junior medical staff.
5. Delivering ward-based teaching sessions and in-situ simulation to medical staff.
6. Organising and coordinating educational activities throughout the Trust.
7. The post holder will play an integral role in the development of the FY1 shadowing and Induction process that takes place every July.
8. The post holder will also develop an understanding of pastoral support and quality assurance in relation to Medical Education and training.
9. To develop enhanced clinical skills, especially in the assessment and management of acutely ill patients.
10. To have excellent team-working skills with the abilities and professional attitude to work well in a multi-professional team.
11. To deliver clinical and quality targets agreed both nationally and locally with clinical teams and commissioners.
12. To follow patients throughout their clinical pathways.
The post would suit doctors who have completed Internal Medical Training or equivalent level wanting to take a year out of training. The post would also suit someone at ST4 - ST6 level looking to gain a broader insight and experience in Medical Education and Simulation while keeping medical skills and knowledge up to date.
